fix(providers): adopt chat usage normalization across the OpenAI-compatible family (K7) - #2254
This PR is stacked on #2252 (fix/deepseek-cache-usage, head c6773dfcc). It must merge after#2252. Review only the commits above c6773dfcc; the shared helper and the DeepSeek adoption belong to #2252. See the Update section below for what changed at head f740f7a00.
Update at head f740f7a00 (supersedes parts of the description below)
The final wave-3 push replaced the single write-alias priority list and the DeepSeek stance with the reconciled two-layer billing design:
The normalizer now resolves two separate lists: CACHE_WRITE_ALIASES (prompt_tokens_details.cache_write_tokens, then cache_creation_input_tokens) and CACHE_MISS_ALIASES (prompt_cache_miss_tokens, then prompt_tokens_details.cache_miss_tokens), with miss counters reported as a distinct cacheMissTokens field, never folded into cacheWriteTokens (src/api/transform/chat-usage-normalization.ts:61, :85, :238-247).
deepseek.ts is now an explicit opt-in adopter (src/api/providers/deepseek.ts:230-250): it maps miss→cacheWriteTokens only when no write counter exists, converging with the documented rule at openai-native.ts:154. The "deepseek.ts and deepseek.spec.ts are untouched" claim below applied to the first push only.
cost.ts gained the kernel defense ((cacheWritesPrice ?? inputPrice) || 0) and ((cacheReadsPrice ?? inputPrice) || 0): explicit-zero catalog rows stay 0, unpriced models resolve to 0 instead of NaN (src/shared/cost.ts:50-59).
Bug-pinning money tests were repaired to assert actual totalCost values (matrix at src/utils/__tests__/cost.spec.ts:242-358).
Two reviewer asks closed with evidence: the :61 Anthropic-alias undercount concern (issue comment 6539679956: concedes the real LiteLLM exclusive-prompt_tokens wire shape, routes cross-shape arbitration to a follow-up policy item) and the :240 clamp thread (reply 4430706905, resolved; CodeRabbit withdrew the clamp request).
Current budget: extension 100/500, types 0/500, printed by the CI mutation-diff job at head f740f7a00. The 66/500 figure below predates this push.
What and why
FINAL-PLAN K7: the OpenAI-compatible family silently drops cache usage in specific shapes. openai.ts read only the top-level cache_creation_input_tokens for writes, BaseOpenAiCompatibleProvider read only the nested prompt_tokens_details shape, and top-level counters were ignored elsewhere. This PR adopts the shared normalizeChatUsage helper from #2252 across the compat family and closes the two forward-compat findings the #2252 review pair filed against the helper itself.

fix(providers): adopt the helper in openai.ts and base-openai-compatible-provider.ts (65f6249b7)
test(usage): pin the malformed-counter warning and drop a dead fallback (b0567c5cb)
Diagnostics hardening (41d6ab0de, cf240159b, d9b68e7da, 55922d9b4) — production-activable channel, bounded descriptor instead of raw values, non-finite-safe previews, exact truncation-boundary pins
fix(usage): bill cache misses as input, not as cache writes (f740f7a00) — the reconciled P2 two-layer fix described in the Update section above
Reviewer findings closed
glm F-1 [P2] — the helper's write-alias list omitted cache_creation_input_tokens, which lite-llm.ts:390-395 reads today, so adopting it verbatim would have zeroed LiteLLM write accounting. Added as the lowest-priority write alias. DeepSeek's documented top-level prompt_cache_miss_tokens still wins; the alias lists are never summed, so no shape can double-count.
mlarge P2 [data-integrity] — asTokenCount silently fell through on malformed counter values. Now an explicit guard: absent/null stays silent (normal shape), present-but-unusable is discarded and reported once per alias (the warning fires in test/log-channel contexts; wiring a production-active channel is a separate logging-ownership decision - the DISCARD itself is the production guard: malformed counts never mis-bill).
Write-alias priority (first-push order; superseded at head, see Update above)
At head f740f7a00 miss counters resolve through a separate CACHE_MISS_ALIASES list into the cacheMissTokens field; the write list is prompt_tokens_details.cache_write_tokens → cache_creation_input_tokens. The block below is the first-push history.
At the first push DeepSeek's documented shape kept absolute priority and deepseek.ts was untouched, so its behavior was byte-identical. At head, DeepSeek adopts the split-list helper with the documented miss→write opt-in (see Update section). cache_creation_input_tokens remains lowest write priority, reached only by providers that publish no DeepSeek counter at all, which is exactly the LiteLLM/Anthropic-style case.
lite-llm.ts deliberately not adopted
Adoption would not be behavior-identical, so per the task boundary the file is untouched:
Write priority is inverted.lite-llm.ts:388-392 tries cache_creation_input_tokensfirst; the helper puts it last. A response carrying both would resolve differently.
Falsy vs strict semantics. lite-llm uses || chains, so a reported 0 falls through to the next alias; the helper stops at the first numeric value, including 0. That changes "reported zero" into a real value.
Read order differs. lite-llm reads cached_tokens → cache_read_input_tokens → prompt_cache_hit_tokens; the helper reads cached_tokens → prompt_cache_hit_tokens → cache_read_input_tokens.
Adopting the helper here would perturb working logic to gain nothing, so the 4-way fallback stays as-is.
Full pnpm test: Test Files 2 failed | 551 passed | 3 skipped (556) / Tests 41 failed | 11941 passed | 37 skipped (12019). All 41 failures are environmental, proven below.
Fail-on-base: 12 new tests fail on c6773dfcc (9 provider + 3 helper), pass on HEAD.
DeepSeek byte-identical (first push only; superseded): at head deepseek.ts adopts the helper with the explicit opt-in documented at deepseek.ts:230-242.
Mutation (helper, Stryker direct): 65 killed, 1 survived, 0 no-coverage. The single survivor is a provably equivalent typeof value === "number" guard (documented in the source). Head-level Z1 mutation round: 6 mutant classes killed including ||→4-red and bare-??→4-NaN witnesses.
The 41 full-suite failures are not from this PR
40 × __tests__/dist_assets.spec.ts — reads src/dist/ build output (gitignored, 118MB). A fresh worktree has no build. Proven environmental: the same suite passes 40/40 in this worktree once src/dist is present, and passes on base .wt-c1 only because that worktree already carries a build.
1 × mistral.spec.ts > keeps TimeoutError when the timeout fires before a later caller abort — GENUINE pre-existing, reproduced on base c6773dfcc in a clean worktree (.wt-c1): Tests 1 failed | 89 passed. Matches coder-report-pr-c1 §7.
Task.spec.ts ENOTEMPTY / condense timeout — appeared in run 1, absent in run 2; passes in isolation on base. Parallel-load flake, not attributable.
Hygiene
No changeset, no CHANGELOG, src/eslint-suppressions.json unchanged (content-identical; the CRLF rewrite from --prune-suppressions was restored).
Zero as any in new code; no floating promises.
All committed blobs: 0 CR bytes (pure LF, no CRLF churn), no BOM, no conflict markers, no zero-byte files, prettier-clean.
What:
- Add src/api/transform/chat-usage-normalization.ts, a shared normalizer that
resolves OpenAI-shaped chat-completions usage into
{ inputTokens, outputTokens, cacheReadTokens, cacheWriteTokens }.
- DeepSeekHandler.processUsageMetrics now uses the normalizer instead of
reading usage.prompt_tokens_details.cache_miss_tokens directly.
- Rewrite the deepseek spec fixtures to DeepSeek's documented wire shape and
add top-level-only, nested-only-legacy, and both-shapes-present cases.
Why:
DeepSeek's OpenAPI marks prompt_cache_hit_tokens and prompt_cache_miss_tokens
as required top-level members and declares only cached_tokens inside
prompt_tokens_details. The nested cache_miss_tokens field the provider read
does not exist, so cacheWriteTokens was permanently undefined. DeepSeek
catalog entries set inputPrice: 0 (inputs are priced as cache read/write
only), so calculateApiCostOpenAI priced every cache-miss input token at zero:
a permanent, near-total under-report of DeepSeek input cost.
The old spec hid this by mocking the non-existent nested shape and asserting
cacheWriteTokens from it, so the suite was green because it mocked the bug.
Read priority is per-field with no summing, because the two shapes describe
the same quantities:
- cacheWriteTokens: prompt_cache_miss_tokens, then nested cache_miss_tokens
(legacy fallback), then nested cache_write_tokens.
- cacheReadTokens: nested cached_tokens, then prompt_cache_hit_tokens, then
cache_read_input_tokens.
Impact:
DeepSeek input cost is now reported instead of collapsing to ~$0 for
cache-miss tokens. The helper is generic over OpenAI-shaped usage so the
family-wide provider rewiring can adopt it without a second implementation.
No behavior change for providers that do not use the helper.

What: add `cache_creation_input_tokens` to the cache-write alias list at the
lowest priority, behind every DeepSeek alias, and replace the silent
`asTokenCount` fall-through with an explicit guard that warns once per alias
when a present counter is unusable.
Why: two P2 findings from the Zoo-Code-Org#2252 review pair. glm F-1: the helper's write
list omitted `cache_creation_input_tokens`, which lite-llm.ts:390-395 reads
today, so adopting the helper verbatim would zero LiteLLM write accounting.
mlarge P2: a present-but-malformed counter was discarded silently, which is
the same silent under-billing class this wave fixes, reachable through a
proxy quirk.
Impact: DeepSeek resolution is unchanged (documented top-level miss counter
still wins, aliases are never summed). Providers that publish only the
Anthropic-style write counter now bill cache writes instead of reporting
none. Malformed counters still fall through, but log once per alias.

code-reviewer-report-pr-c1-mlarge.md [P2]
…atible family
What: route cache accounting in OpenAiHandler and BaseOpenAiCompatibleProvider
through normalizeChatUsage.
Why: FINAL-PLAN K7. OpenAiHandler read only the top-level
cache_creation_input_tokens for writes, so a proxy reporting writes under
prompt_tokens_details.cache_write_tokens or prompt_cache_miss_tokens billed
them as zero. BaseOpenAiCompatibleProvider read only the nested
prompt_tokens_details shape, so its cache reads and writes silently missed
every top-level counter.
Impact: both handlers now resolve one value per field across the documented
OpenAI-compatible shapes and never sum two shapes that describe the same
quantity. OpenAiHandler reads keep the Zoo-Code-Org#1662 validated subset semantics
unchanged; only the write resolution moved to the shared helper.
BaseOpenAiCompatibleProvider is the only reader of its usage object, so
nothing is mapped twice. DeepSeek keeps its own override and is untouched.
lite-llm.ts is deliberately not adopted: its local fallback is not
behavior-identical to the helper (see report).
Refs: docs/261030_0005_session_diet-caching-validation/FINAL-PLAN.md K7
What: make the alias path a required argument of asTokenCount, add a spec
case that pins the warning message and the exact field names it reports, and
document why the typeof guard stays in isTokenCount.
Why: mutation testing on the helper left four surviving StringLiteral mutants
and one NoCoverage mutant on the `path ?? "unknown"` fallback. The fallback
was unreachable because every caller passes an alias, and the warning text
and field names were unpinned, so a future edit could silently rename the
diagnostic that makes a billing regression visible.
Impact: no behavior change for valid or malformed counters. The diagnostic is
now covered by a test. Mutation score on the helper: 65 killed, 1 survived
(provably equivalent typeof guard), 0 no-coverage.

Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Adding the Anthropic-style cache_creation_input_tokens alias assumes those tokens are already included in prompt_tokens. If a supported gateway reports Anthropic-style uncached prompt tokens instead, OpenAI cost calculation subtracts writes that were never included.
The usage chunk can report too few total input tokens and its cost calculation can omit 20 tokens from the ordinary input bucket.
This can occur when: A generic OpenAI-compatible gateway reports prompt_tokens: 100 excluding 20 separately reported cache_creation_input_tokens, and supplies no nested write counter.
Summary
Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Improved token usage reporting for OpenAI-compatible and DeepSeek responses across streaming and non-streaming requests.
Cache metrics are recognized across supported response formats, with overlapping counters counted once and cache misses kept separate from cache writes.
When cache-write counters conflict, the preferred counter is used instead of combining values.
Missing or invalid cache metrics remain unreported; missing or invalid input and output token counts default to zero.
When a cache price is not specified, cache usage is billed at the input-token price. Explicit zero cache prices remain free.
The PR adds shared normalization for chat token and cache counters, applies it to provider usage processing, and changes cache-token cost calculations to fall back to input prices when cache prices are absent.
Adds normalizeChatUsage to validate token counts and resolve cache counters through ordered aliases. Missing prompt and completion counts default to zero. Cache misses remain separate from cache writes. Tests cover alias precedence, malformed values, diagnostics, and missing counters.
Use normalized usage in providers src/api/providers/base-openai-compatible-provider.ts, src/api/providers/deepseek.ts, src/api/providers/openai.ts, src/api/providers/__tests__/base-openai-compatible-provider.spec.ts, src/api/providers/__tests__/deepseek.spec.ts, src/api/providers/__tests__/openai-usage-tracking.spec.ts
Provider usage processing uses normalized token counts and cache counters. Tests cover provider counter shapes, precedence, missing counters, and billing of cache misses.
Cache-read and cache-write costs use the configured cache price when present, including zero. When a cache price is absent, the input price applies. Tests cover model catalogs and custom pricing.
The change is mergeable with a bounded accounting caveat: inconsistent DeepSeek cache-miss counts can inflate reported costs. Validate those counts or track the edge case explicitly.

Full details: Lifecycle Resource Cleanup
Explanation
No changed lifecycle path can leak a resource or duplicate work. The production changes only call normalizeChatUsage during existing usage processing in base-openai-compatible-provider.ts, deepseek.ts, and openai.ts. The helper keeps a bounded alias-key Set and uses one module-scoped logger. CompactLogger constructs a CompactTransport without opening a handle; its writes use synchronous file operations. The diff adds no listener, watcher, timer, task, subscription, or cancellation/disposal path.
Full details: Security Boundaries
Explanation
The changed normalizer still logs provider-controlled string content. describeMalformedCount places up to 64 characters of a malformed string counter into preview at src/api/transform/chat-usage-normalization.ts:167-172, and emitMalformedCountWarning sends it to CompactLogger at lines 180-185. The OpenAI-compatible provider paths call this normalizer. A provider or proxy that returns a malformed counter such as a token, API key, or PII string can therefore write its prefix to application logs.
Resolution
Remove preview from string diagnostics. Log only fixed metadata such as the alias path, value type, and string length. Keep the raw malformed value out of CompactLogger and all transports.
Full details: Persistence Integrity
Explanation
The changed path can corrupt persisted log state. normalizeChatUsage sends a malformed counter to usageLogger.warn (src/api/transform/chat-usage-normalization.ts:180-188), and new CompactLogger() uses the default file-backed CompactTransport (./logs/app.log). On the first warning, ensureInitialized() truncates the existing file at CompactTransport.ts:63-65, then writes the session marker in a separate operation at lines 67-73. A malformed provider counter can therefore erase prior logs, and a failure between those writes can leave partial persisted state.
Resolution
Use an explicit non-persistent or injected diagnostic sink for malformed counters. If file persistence is required, initialize the complete log atomically with a temporary file and rename, and define explicit handling for initialization or append failures.
Full details: Regression Evidence
Explanation
The prior regression remains unresolved. BaseOpenAiCompatibleProvider.processUsageMetrics now sends normalized cache-write and cache-read counts into calculateApiCostOpenAI (base-openai-compatible-provider.ts:196-208). The provider tests assert only token fields for nested, top-level, overlapping, and no-counter cases (base-openai-compatible-provider.spec.ts:336-381, 408-473). TEST_MODEL_INFO has no cache prices (:27-34), and the only added cost assertion uses a zero-write-price model for the miss path (:432-464). These tests cannot detect incorrect nonzero cache-read or cache-write billing, double billing in the overlapping case, or the no-cache baseline cost.
Resolution
Add BaseOpenAiCompatibleProvider integration assertions with nonzero cacheWritesPrice and cacheReadsPrice. Assert totalCost for nested or top-level cache usage, the overlapping-shape case to prove one-time billing, and the no-counter case to prove the baseline cost.

src/api/transform/chat-usage-normalization.ts:151 Minor · Functional Correctness · Poor tradeoff
Do not report inputTokens as 0 when prompt_tokens is absent.
normalizeChatUsage documents that counts the provider does not report stay undefined. Its inputTokens field is documented as the total prompt count, including cache reads. Line 151 returns ?? 0 instead. A usage object with a cache-read count and no prompt_tokens therefore yields an input total smaller than its own cache-read count.
DeepSeekHandler.processUsageMetrics and BaseOpenAiCompatibleProvider.processUsageMetrics apply ?? 0 again, and NormalizedChatUsage.inputTokens is typed number. Changing line 151 alone does not change the emitted value. A fix needs a typed missing-total state in NormalizedChatUsage, undefined propagated through both callers, and a decision on how cost is computed when the input total is unknown. If that change is out of scope, the function and type documentation should state the zero default.
Note: this behaviour predates this PR (already present at merge base 159c42e15d48); the change keeps it reachable.

What: empty retrigger commit, no content change.
Why: theme-fixtures died in @vscode/test-electron 'Resolving version...' download (recorded infra signature; no fixture diff emitted). Same base is green on Zoo-Code-Org#2254/Zoo-Code-Org#2256/Zoo-Code-Org#2257 minutes apart; diff is type-declaration-only with no causal path. No admin rerun rights on the org repo; push-retrigger is the documented recovery.
Impact: all CI legs re-run on identical trees (cc2cb36 content == this commit's tree).
…e sink
What: replace the `logger` import in chat-usage-normalization.ts with a
module-local `CompactLogger` instance, and guard the emit so a sink failure
cannot escape into usage accounting. Rewrite the spec cases to spy on
`CompactLogger.prototype.warn`, and add two cases: one that simulates the
production branch (NODE_ENV=production) and asserts the warning still reaches
a real logger, and one that asserts a throwing sink does not abort accounting.
Why: CodeRabbit thread r4426014105 (and reviewer F-01). The exported `logger`
is `process.env.NODE_ENV === "test" ? new CompactLogger() : noopLogger`, so
every `logger.warn` in production is discarded. The hardening added for the
mlarge P2 finding therefore promised a diagnostic that no real install would
ever emit. The sink is now active regardless of NODE_ENV.
Impact: malformed-counter warnings are actually emitted in production, once
per alias, with the same dedupe semantics as before. Valid-shape behavior is
unchanged: all pre-existing helper cases pass unmodified. A broken log sink
degrades to silence rather than surfacing as a usage failure.
Disclosed separately, NOT fixed here: `src/utils/logging/index.ts:25` selects
CompactLogger only when NODE_ENV === "test", which is the inverse of its own
docstring ("Uses CompactLogger for normal operation, switches to noop logger in
Jest test environment"). Correcting that ternary would change logging for every
extension call site, so it is reported as a pre-existing repo-wide finding
rather than widened into this PR.

What: stop passing the raw provider value to the diagnostics sink. The warning
now carries the value's type, plus a size-safe payload: the numeric value for
numbers, and `length` plus a 64-character preview for strings. Everything else
keeps only its type.
Why: CodeRabbit thread r4426662673. `CompactTransport.write` serializes the
meta object and writes it synchronously to stdout and to ./logs/app.log, so a
large provider value would block the event loop and grow the log file. The
value arrives straight off the wire and is unbounded, so it must not be logged
verbatim.
Impact: diagnostics stay useful (which field, what type, how big, and a short
preview) while the emitted payload is bounded. A 1MB string now produces a
241-byte log line. Dedupe semantics are unchanged: one warning per alias per
process.
Tests: the four existing diagnostic cases now assert the descriptor shape
rather than the raw value, and seven cases were added: one with a 1MB string
asserting the payload stays bounded, and six covering the per-type descriptors.
All ten fail on the previous head 41d6ab0.

Assert the exact preview for the long string.

Assert the exact preview for the long string.
The typeof and length <= 65 assertions accept any string of 65 characters or fewer. An empty string passes, and so does a bare …. A regression that drops the 64-character prefix would not fail this test. The current code produces exactly "9".repeat(64) followed by …, so the exact value below passes against the current code and also detects that regression.
🧪 Suggested test change

What: stringify the numeric preview for non-finite values only, so NaN,
Infinity and -Infinity keep their names through JSON serialization. Finite
numbers stay numeric.
Why: CodeRabbit thread r4427098612. CompactTransport.write persists the meta
object with JSON.stringify, which writes `null` for all three non-finite
values, so the stored warning showed `preview:null` and the three could not be
told apart.
Impact: one-line behavior change in describeMalformedCount. Finite numbers and
strings serialize without loss and are untouched, so the previously pinned
assertions for those shapes stay honest. Dedupe semantics unchanged.
Tests: the NaN/Infinity cases now expect string previews, a -Infinity case was
added, and one case asserts all three serialize to distinct, non-null previews.
All four fail on the previous head cf24015.

The bounded-payload case asserted only that the preview was a string of at
most 65 characters, so an empty preview, a 63-character preview, and a
64-character preview with a spurious ellipsis all passed. The truncation
boundary is now pinned at both sides: a 64-character counter is kept whole
and a 65-character counter keeps its first 64 characters plus an ellipsis.
Both cases fail on the previous head when the cap is off by one, and the
64-character case fails when the comparison is tightened to >=.
What:
- chat-usage-normalization.ts: split the single write-alias list into
CACHE_WRITE_ALIASES (prompt_tokens_details.cache_write_tokens,
cache_creation_input_tokens) and CACHE_MISS_ALIASES
(prompt_cache_miss_tokens, prompt_tokens_details.cache_miss_tokens),
and report the miss counter as a new NormalizedChatUsage.cacheMissTokens
field instead of folding it into cacheWriteTokens.
- deepseek.ts: DeepSeekHandler.processUsageMetrics opts in to the miss
counter (cacheWriteTokens ?? cacheMissTokens). It is the only handler
that does, because every deepSeekModels row sets inputPrice: 0 by design.
- cost.ts: cache prices fall back to inputPrice when the catalog omits
them, via (cacheWritesPrice ?? inputPrice) || 0. The inner ?? honors an
explicit zero price; the outer || 0 keeps a fully unpriced model at 0
instead of NaN.
Why:
prompt_cache_miss_tokens was aliased to cacheWriteTokens for every
provider. calculateApiCostOpenAI subtracts cache writes from the input
pool, so a miss left the input bucket and was re-priced at a cache-write
rate most catalogs leave unset, billing it at zero. The rule already
existed in-repo: openai-native.ts:154 states "missFromDetails is NOT used
as fallback for cache writes". This makes the shared normalizer agree.
The alias was introduced inside this stack by c6773df; origin/main has
no chat-usage-normalization.ts and its openai.ts reads only
cache_creation_input_tokens, so this is a regression this PR created.
Impact:
- Non-DeepSeek providers (baseten, fireworks, friendli, sambanova, zai,
openai, kimi-code) bill misses as regular input again.
- DeepSeek billing is unchanged: its miss-to-write mapping is preserved.
- Custom models with a priced input and no cache price stop under-billing
cache tokens (11.7% on the F-01 fixture).
- Catalog rows with an explicit cacheWritesPrice: 0 are byte-identical.
- Tests now assert totalCost, not just token labels, so a green suite can
no longer hide a pricing regression.

Addressing the review-body follow-up on src/api/transform/chat-usage-normalization.ts:61 (the Anthropic-style cache_creation_input_tokens alias).
The underlying observation is fair and we are not disputing it: the exclusive-prompt_tokens wire shape is real. LiteLLM discussion #14890 documents responses where prompt_tokens excludes cache_creation_input_tokens (prompt_tokens: 19 with cache_creation_input_tokens: 7277), LiteLLM PR #23342 made prompt_tokens exclude cached tokens for anthropic_messages call types following Anthropic's convention, and issue #9812 / PR #15292 show the same convention boundary handled differently across providers. In short, LiteLLM's prompt_tokens semantics are provider-shape dependent: Anthropic-shaped responses exclude cache tokens, OpenAI-shaped responses include them.
How that lands in this codebase:
This module's documented contract is the OpenAI-inclusive shape ("Total prompt tokens, including cache reads and cache writes"), and the alias exists to serve the Anthropic-style top-level counter that LiteLLM publishes for cached writes.
Anthropic-shaped responses bill through calculateApiCostAnthropic, where the exclusive convention is correct by construction (total input = input + cache creation + cache read).
An OpenAI-compat endpoint publishing the Anthropic-style counter with exclusive prompt_tokens would under-count by the write tokens' input price through calculateApiCostOpenAI (nonCachedInputTokens = max(0, inputTokens - cacheCreation - cacheRead)), so the concern is direction-dependent on the cost path rather than absolute.
The only consumer of the miss-token list is DeepSeek, whose own usage shape is inclusive (prompt_cache_hit_tokens + prompt_cache_miss_tokens = prompt_tokens), so the mapping shipped here is correct for its actual consumer.
Deciding which wire shape wins when a proxy reshapes token semantics is a semantic-arbitration policy across billing counters, not a repair this PR should carry, so we are tracking it as a follow-up policy item rather than changing the alias here. The separate ask about validating cacheMissTokens against prompt_tokens is answered on its review thread.

* chore(test): drop test-only tool-use interfaces from shared/tools
What: remove the AttemptCompletionToolUse and WriteToFileToolUse interface
declarations from src/shared/tools.ts and retype their three spec consumers to
the generic ToolUse<"attempt_completion"> / ToolUse<"write_to_file">.
Why: both interfaces had zero production references at origin/main; the only
importers were three specs. ToolUse<TName> already resolves nativeArgs through
NativeToolArgs, so the named aliases added no type information over the generic
form. knip could not report them because knip.json exempts src/shared/*.ts with
a "!" suffix, so the deadness was proven by importer grep instead.
Impact: no behavior change. Type-level only: params widens from a Pick of one
or two keys to Partial<Record<ToolParamName, string>>, which accepts a superset,
and nativeArgs keeps its exact shape. src and webview-ui typecheck, knip dev and
production stay clean, and the affected suites (1246 tests across core/tools and
core/task) pass.
The TOOL_DISPLAY_NAMES row from the same plan was already removed upstream by
1cbc0f4 (Zoo-Code-Org#527), and the directoryExists dedup was stopped because the two
copies enforce different error contracts (the roo-config copy re-throws on
EACCES and is test-locked; the custom-instructions copy swallows all errors).
* ci: retrigger workflow — theme-fixtures infra-flake
