Fixes #955.
Fixes #973.

Stack created with GitHub Stacks CLI • Give Feedback 💬

  • Code: Replaced named index-port routing with join_registration. Registrations describe input layers, join participants, and their index, completion, and optional partition ports.
  • Code: Updated index_router to route joins by eligible invocation paths and participant layers. It uses those paths consistently for routing, cell acceptance, and completion accounting.
  • Code: Limited fold initialization and completion accounting to registered join-storage paths. Removed the separate fold partition-port wiring.
  • Code: Removed the restriction that prevented unfolds from using inputs from multiple layers.
  • Tests: Added coverage for join routing and completion, accepted-cell filtering, fold input ordering and excluded paths, nested and multilayer unfolds, duplicate layer names, and empty folds.
  • Tests: Test execution results were not provided.

📝 Walkthrough

The change replaces named index-port descriptors with join registrations that carry input layers and participant details. The index router now resolves invocation and storage paths from those registrations. Product consumers filter accepted cells by input, and unfold construction no longer rejects multiple distinct input layers.

Changes: Multilayer join and index routing

Layer / File(s) Summary
Join registration contract and producers
phlex/core/join_registration.hpp, phlex/core/message.hpp, phlex/core/*_node.hpp, phlex/core/fold_join_node.hpp, phlex/core/multilayer_join_node.hpp, phlex/core/make_computational_edges.*, phlex/core/CMakeLists.txt, test/multilayer_join_test.cpp
Join registrations replace named index-port descriptors. Join and node APIs return registrations with input-layer and participant details, and edge construction collects them.
Invocation paths and completion accounting
phlex/core/index_router.*, phlex/core/framework_graph.cpp, phlex/core/declared_fold.hpp, test/index_router_test.cpp, test/fold_test.cpp, test/fold_duplicate_layer_name_test.cpp, test/framework_graph_test.cpp
The router resolves eligible invocation paths and participant storage paths from registrations. It routes indices, completion counts, and fold partition indices. Tests cover path matching, caching roles, completion accounting, and fold behavior.
Accepted-cell filtering
phlex/core/products_consumer.*, test/core_misc_test.cpp
Product consumers store accepted cell hashes per input. Their layer checks enforce both the input layer and any configured cell restriction.
Multilayer unfold and fold coverage
phlex/core/declared_unfold.cpp, test/unfold_test.cpp
The unfold constructor no longer rejects multiple distinct input layers. Tests cover nested and empty partitions, repeated layer names at different paths, and cached-entry warnings.

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 80566

The new join routing is mergeable. One gap remains: a fold whose partition layer is not an ancestor of its inputs is not reported as a configuration error. Debug builds crash with an assertion, and release builds silently skip the fold. Turning this into a clear error is a small follow-up.

125-129: 🎯 Functional Correctness

The warning text contains "Cached" in both repeater_node.cpp and accumulator_node.hpp. Both warnings use spdlog::warn, and use_ostream_logger installs an ostream_sink as the default logger. The check therefore matches the current diagnostics and captures their log level. The proposed wording and logger-level concerns are refuted.

Replace independent counting-layer preferences with product-driven join
invocation domains. Register participant storage layers and receivers,
project invocations to their nearest matching ancestors, and precompute
the storage-path counts used for completion.

Use the same eligible paths for product acceptance, fold accumulator
initialization, routing, and completion. Filter foreign same-named cells
before products reach repeaters, and reject mixed caching and pass-through
roles.

Cover fold input ordering, repeated ancestors, excluded branches,
per-input acceptance, empty eligible folds, and single-layer unfold
bookkeeping. Keep multilayer unfolds disabled until the following commit.
Remove the multilayer-input restriction now that hierarchy resolution,
join routing, product acceptance, and completion use consistent domains.

Cover nested unfolds with higher-layer inputs, partially and completely
empty children, repeated layer names, leaf-only driver hierarchies, and
dependent-before-producer registration under normal parallel execution.

Fixes #955. Fixes #973.
