Closes #298.

FileKit won't support zip archives directly (see #642). This adds a Cookbook page showing how to create and extract zip archives with kmp-zip, which uses kotlinx-io like FileKit.

Changes

  • New page docs/cookbook/zip-archives.mdx:
    • zip(sources, archive): zips files and folders recursively, streaming each file
    • unzip(archive, destination): extracts an archive, with entry name validation against Zip Slip
    • Example with FileKit Dialogs (pick files, then choose where to save the archive)
    • Web: building the archive in memory and downloading it with FileKit.download
  • Added the page to the Cookbook navigation in docs/docs.json

Platforms

Android, iOS, macOS, JVM and Kotlin/Native Linux for zip / unzip. JS and WASM for the in-memory variant.

Validation

The page's code was run in a temporary JVM test against kmp-zip 1.0.0 (removed before committing):

  • zip / unzip round-trip of a nested folder and a 300 KB binary file
  • archive entries read back by java.util.zip
  • ../, absolute and drive-letter entry names rejected

Not verified locally: native and web compilation of the snippets, and Mintlify rendering.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Added a cookbook guide for creating and extracting ZIP archives with FileKit across Android, iOS, macOS, JVM, and Kotlin/Native Linux.
    • Included streaming examples for native platforms and a browser-based example for creating and downloading archives in memory, suitable for small files.
    • Documented the requirement for distinct source names, extraction safeguards, archive size and entry-count limits, archive/source overlap, symbolic-link risks, and decompression-bomb precautions.
    • Included a file-picker workflow and added the guide to the Cookbook documentation.

📝 Walkthrough

Adds a Cookbook guide with examples for creating and extracting ZIP archives on native platforms and creating in-memory archives on JS/WASM. The guide documents extraction path checks and appears in the Cookbook navigation.

Systems and components

  • observed — docs (service) was modified; 2 changed files map to changed impact.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in docs/docs.json: The Cookbook navigation page list now includes cookbook/zip-archives after cookbook/test-resources.
  • observed — Modified behavior in docs/cookbook/zip-archives.mdx: Adds the page title and description, introduces kmp-zip and its kotlinx-io adapters as dependencies, and notes that the examples accept FileKit PlatformFile values, including dialog-returned files and folders.
  • observed — Modified behavior in docs/cookbook/zip-archives.mdx: Adds a native ZIP example that recursively writes files and folders, preserving each source name as the top-level entry. It requires distinct source names and streams file contents; the guide notes symbolic-link behavior and kmp-zip limits of under 4 GB per file and archive, with at most 65,535 entries.
  • observed — Modified behavior in docs/cookbook/zip-archives.mdx: Adds a native extraction example that processes entries into a destination, creating directories as needed. Before resolving an entry, safePathSegments() normalizes backslashes and rejects absolute paths, empty paths, .. segments, and segments containing :. The guide also warns about symbolic links in existing destinations and unbounded decompression size.

Explanation

Issue #298 asks whether users can create a ZIP archive from folders and files. The new Cookbook page provides zip(sources, archive), recursively processes folders, streams file contents, and shows FileKit picker usage. The page also documents extraction with path validation. The page is added to Cookbook navigation.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The PR adds one ZIP archive Cookbook page and one navigation entry. The extraction guidance, security warnings, FileKit Dialogs example, and web download example support the archive documentation objective. No unrelated changes are shown.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Make the web download example self-contained and suspend-aware.

The example calls suspend functions from top-level code and uses files without declaring it. This prevents the JS/WASM sample from compiling when users copy it.
