fix: upgrade deepmerge-ts to handle circular references - #1697
Prevent stack exhaustion when deepMergeStrings merges records containing circular references.
Preserve the helper's previous Map behaviour: union entries and keep the last value for duplicate keys, without recursively merging those values.
Add circular-record and Map compatibility regression tests, plus a flowbite-react patch changeset.
Validation
Latest validation used Bun 1.3.8 and Node.js 24.21.0 on Linux. Commands below ran from packages/ui/, except the Git check:
bun test scripts src/cli src/helpers — 292 tests passed across 23 files.
bun run vitest run --minWorkers=1 --maxWorkers=2 — 49 files passed; 339 tests passed, with 1 existing skip and 1 existing todo.
bun run typecheck — passed.
bun run lint — passed with 7 warnings in unchanged component theme files.
bun run prettier src/helpers/deep-merge.ts src/helpers/deep-merge.test.ts ../../.changeset/safe-circular-theme-merges.md --check — passed.
bun run build — passed for the UI package.
From the repository root, git diff --check — passed.
The circular-record test failed with stack exhaustion on 7.1.5 and passes on 8.0.0. The Map compatibility test failed on the default v8 merge behaviour and passes with the custom Map merge, checking replacement value identity and preservation of non-conflicting entries.
The full monorepo application builds and coverage command were not run locally. The initial PR's GitHub format, lint, typecheck, test and build checks passed; checks for the follow-up commit run separately. Vercel previews require authorisation from the upstream team.
API impact
No Flowbite React public API or theme structure changes are introduced by this PR. The custom theme helper retains its previous Map merge semantics while supporting circular records.
