Changes: TectonicUnit coverage
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Backend API operation tests specifyweb/backend/businessrules/tests/test_tectonicunit.py
Tests cover API creation, optional-field round trips, accepted-unit relationships, updates to pre-existing units, and deletion of new and pre-existing units.

Merge Risk: Minimal · up to a6039
The added API and cloning tests are mergeable. Coverage for updating legacy units with a NULL definitionitem remains a useful follow-up alongside fixing the existing update failure.

Explanation
Linked issue #8762 is "[test]: Tests for Tectonic Unit". The issue body is empty, so the requirement is the title: add tests for Tectonic Unit. The PR adds TectonicunitTests in specifyweb/backend/businessrules/tests/test_tectonicunit.py (head a6039e2). The tests cover:
Creating a unit with the configured tree definition and rank (test_create_tectonicunit).
Accepted-unit and synonym state (test_add_accepted_tectonicunit).
Deleting a new unit (test_delete_new_tectonicunit).
Editing and deleting a unit created in a previous version (test_edit_tectonicunit_created_in_previous_version, test_delete_tectonicunit_created_in_previous_version).
The frontend change adds TectonicUnit to the clone test table in domain.test.ts (#8762 scope: Tectonic Unit tests). The PR description ("Fixes #8762") matches this scope. Test execution was not run in this review. Pass/fail of the added tests is not established by this assessment.

Explanation
All changed files are test code for Tectonic Unit. The backend file adds only TectonicunitTests (+183 lines, no production code changes). The frontend file adds one entry, 'TectonicUnit', to the existing clone-test list in domain.test.ts (+1 line). Both changes support the test objective of #8762. No unrelated production code or unrelated tests were found in the whole-PR diff against merge base c8ced58.
Full details: Automatic Tests
Explanation
The PR adds automatic tests in both supported test suites. test_tectonicunit.py adds backend API tests for creation, optional fields, accepted units, deletion, and versioned updates. domain.test.ts adds TectonicUnit to the existing Jest clone test. The backend file passes Python syntax validation, and the frontend path matches the configured Jest test pattern.
Full details: Testing Instructions
Explanation
The pull request adds focused backend tests for TectonicUnit creation, optional fields, accepted-unit relationships, deletion, and versioned updates. It also adds TectonicUnit to the existing frontend clone test table. The affected backend and frontend components are directly covered by the changed test files.

Add a test for a legacy unit whose definitionitem is NULL.
The "created before this version" fixture always sets definitionitem, so the edit and delete tests never use the shape that migration 0006_fix_tectonic_tree_fields.py can leave behind. That migration adds definitionitem as nullable without a backfill. For a unit with a NULL definitionitem, Tree.save in specifyweb/backend/trees/extras.py:48-49 reads self.definitionitem.rankid without a None check. An update of such a unit therefore raises AttributeError before the write.
This PR does not change that path, so the failure predates it. Consider adding a case that creates a unit with definitionitem=None and updates it. Track the update failure in Tree.save as a separate follow-up fix.

around lines 53 - 55:
Add a legacy-unit test case in the existing edit tests that creates a unit with
definitionitem set to None and attempts to update it. Keep the Tree.save failure
as a separate follow-up; do not change that code path in this test-focused fix.
