Summary

Fix DOCX-to-PDF page-anchored group positioning, grouped text-box placement, shape style fills and font colors, and homePlate rendering. Rectangular outlines are limited to rectangles or shapes with unspecified geometry, including in headers and footers. No public API changes.

Validation

  • dotnet test tests\MiniPdf.Tests\MiniPdf.Tests.csproj --configuration Release --filter 'FullyQualifiedName~Convert_HeaderAndFooterOutlinedShapes_OnlyRectanglesDrawBoundingBox' --verbosity quiet: pre-fix regression reproduced (1 failed, 1 passed).
  • dotnet test tests\MiniPdf.Tests\MiniPdf.Tests.csproj --configuration Release --filter 'FullyQualifiedName~DocxGroupShapeTests' --verbosity quiet --no-restore: passed (7/7).
  • dotnet test tests\MiniPdf.Tests\MiniPdf.Tests.csproj --configuration Release --no-restore --no-build --verbosity quiet: passed (221/221).
  • scripts\Run-DotNet-VisualBenchmark.ps1 -Suite classic -Format docx -MinimumScore 0: passed (180/180 converted, 0 missing references). Overall average 0.9810 and visual average 0.96215 both before and after; no visual drop greater than 0.002, page-count change, invalid PDF, or missing comparison images. docx_classic61_header_and_footer: overall 0.9942, 1/1 pages before and after. The synthetic header/footer outline case has an automated regression test; no visual fixture exercises that exact geometry. Report and images are retained locally under artifacts/dotnet-benchmark/classic/docx/, not committed.
  • git diff --check: passed.

Checklist

  • The change is focused and does not include unrelated formatting or generated files.
  • New or changed behavior has automated test coverage where practical.
  • Relevant .NET and/or Rust checks pass.
  • Public API and compatibility effects are documented.
  • Security implications and untrusted-input behavior were considered.
  • I have the right to submit every added source file, fixture, font, image, and other asset under its stated license.
  • Third-party and generated material includes its source and license.
  • Test documents contain no confidential information or personal data.
  • User-facing documentation is updated, including translated README files when the English README changed.
  • Large benchmark outputs are attached or stored as CI artifacts unless they are required canonical evidence.

Tests use synthetic documents. No new assets or dependencies were added; no README changes were needed. Benchmark outputs remain local rather than attached to CI.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Improvements
    • DOCX-to-PDF conversion more accurately positions floating and grouped shapes, including shapes aligned or offset relative to the page.
    • Text boxes within grouped shapes better preserve their placement, text area, and left and right insets.
    • Shape fills and text colors are rendered more consistently, including colors referenced by document styles.
    • Pointed shapes retain their intended geometry, while outlines are drawn appropriately for rectangular shapes and not as unwanted bounding boxes around freeform shapes.

…uped text boxes

Resolve wp14 percentage and alignment anchors for wpg groups, place text boxes by their rectangle inside the group frame, honour wps:style fillRef/fontRef, draw homePlate with its tip and respect rIns and the preset text rectangle. Draw outlines as a bounding box only for rectangles.

📝 Walkthrough

The DOCX reader now captures anchor placement, group dimensions, and text-box metadata. The converter uses this information to position floating text boxes and shapes, render homePlate geometry, and handle outlines. New tests cover placement, fills, grouped text, and outlines.

Changes: DOCX Shape Placement and Rendering

Layer / File(s) Summary
Read anchor and group metadata
src/MiniPdf/DocxReader.cs
The reader resolves anchor positions, including nested alternate content and percentage offsets. It records anchor and group dimensions, child offsets, text insets, and applicable style-derived fills and text colors.
Position and render shapes
src/MiniPdf/DocxToPdfConverter.cs, tests/MiniPdf.Tests/DocxGroupShapeTests.cs
The converter uses anchor and group dimensions for placement, adjusts text-box layout for insets and shape geometry, renders homePlate polygons, and avoids rectangular outlines on non-rectangular preset shapes. Tests cover these behaviors.

Reviewed the header/footer outline fix and synthetic regression tests. All 221 .NET tests pass; the complete 180-case classic DOCX visual benchmark matches the saved baseline. Approved pending completion of the refreshed PR check.

Confirmed and merged. The header/footer outline issue raised in review was fixed and covered by synthetic regression tests for homePlate and rectangle shapes. All 221 .NET tests passed. The complete 180-case classic DOCX visual benchmark converted every case and matched the saved baseline (overall average 0.9810, no visual-score drops or page-count changes). The review thread is resolved and the PR was squash-merged as b34f3a4. Thank you for the contribution and review.
