LCORE-4743: Add Mustache-style template validation and rendering - #3155
Implement {{name}} placeholder validation on create/update and text-only substitution at render time. Empty templates, invalid placeholder names, and missing or extra variables are rejected with clear errors.
Introduce Prompt and PromptVersion ORM models for the local prompt
catalog. Prompt holds identity and a default-version pointer;
PromptVersion uses a (prompt_id, version) composite primary key for
immutable version rows with template text and declared variables.
Includes the prompts module skeleton with domain exceptions and unit
tests covering schema definition, constraints, and variable validation.
This makes sure both tables are registered when we import Base at
src/app/database.py. All the other tables (i.e. SavedPrompt,
UserConversation, and UserTurn) are registered transitively, so
it will be better we also import those tables at __init__.py.
Implement CRUD operations in the prompts module: create (mint pmpt_ id,
version 1 as default), get by id with optional version (falls back to
default), list all prompts, update (appends immutable version, optionally
sets as default), and delete (prompt and all versions). Domain errors
surface PromptNotFoundError and PromptValidationError for endpoint
handlers to map to HTTP responses. Unit tests cover happy paths,
not-found cases, and validation errors.
Implement {{name}} placeholder validation on create/update and
text-only substitution at render time. Empty templates, invalid
placeholder names, and missing or extra variables are rejected
with clear errors.
This change adds database models and store operations for a versioned prompt catalog. It also adds template validation and rendering, prompt-specific exceptions, and unit tests for persistence, store operations, and template behavior.
Adds Prompt and PromptVersion models, exports both from the database package, and tests their schema and persistence behavior.
Template validation and rendering src/prompts/exceptions.py, src/prompts/template.py, src/prompts/__init__.py, tests/unit/prompts/*
Adds prompt-specific exceptions and functions to validate template variables and placeholders and render values. Tests cover validation and rendering cases.
Prompt store operations src/prompts/store.py, tests/unit/prompts/test_store.py
Adds operations to create, retrieve, list, update, and delete prompts. Tests cover version handling, defaults, and missing or invalid prompts.
The prompt catalog code appears functionally sound, but one new unit test fails and the docstring lint check fails. Both block CI and should be fixed before merge. Either add the model-level duplicate-variable validator or remove the test, and add the missing period to the docstring.

Explanation
Docstring coverage is 100.00% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 13 functions across 10 files.
Full details: Security And Secret Handling
Explanation
The reviewed changes add prompt persistence, store functions, and template substitution only. SQL access uses SQLAlchemy query/filter APIs rather than string-built SQL or shell/path operations. The only logs contain generated prompt IDs and version numbers; template text, variable values, and tokens are not logged. No API or WebSocket endpoint, Kubernetes Secret, RH secret, or authentication boundary is introduced in the diff.
Full details: Performance And Algorithmic Complexity
Explanation
Meaningful performance regression: src/prompts/store.py:94-103 adds list_prompts(), which executes session.query(Prompt).all() and returns every prompt without pagination or a maximum limit. The result and database work grow with the full catalog size.
Resolution
Add bounded pagination to list_prompts, such as validated limit and offset parameters with a safe maximum, and apply them in the query. Update callers and tests to cover page boundaries and the maximum limit.

Learning: In this repository, it is acceptable for Python package `__init__.py` files to contain functional code (not only docstrings/metadata) and to perform package-level re-exports. Do not flag `__init__.py` solely for containing imports or other logic used to re-export symbols; this is allowed when it’s implemented via imports and `__all__` (or otherwise clearly intended to define the package’s public API).

- `Error`/`Exception` for custom exceptions
- `Resolver` for strategy pattern implementations
- `Interface` for abstract base classes
- **Pydantic Models**: Extend `ConfigurationBase` for config, `BaseModel` for data models

Major · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Fix the failing test: PromptVersion has no duplicate-variable validation.
The test expects PromptValidationError when PromptVersion(...) is built with variables=["a", "a"]. The PromptVersion model in src/models/database/prompts.py has no validator on variables. The constructor accepts the duplicates and raises nothing. The pipeline logs confirm this: test_duplicate_variables_raises_validation_error fails on Python 3.12 to 3.14.
Choose one fix:
If the model must enforce uniqueness, add a @validates("variables") hook to PromptVersion.
Otherwise, delete this test. validate_template already covers duplicate names in tests/unit/prompts/test_template.py and tests/unit/prompts/test_store.py.
prompts.exceptions has no imports, and src/prompts/__init__.py contains only a docstring. The model can import it without a circular import.
