Improve database work claiming, numeric handling and JWT configuration - #723
tymondesigns/jwt-auth #2304: rebuild signing configuration on first use after boot-time settings change. Setting an algorithm before its keys now works, while invalid configuration remains a configuration error. Preserve parsed-key reuse, custom constraints and verification-only providers.
laravel/docs #11415 and its formatting update: document AI stopping middleware, classification model selection and the sub-agent approval limitation, retaining Hypervel's batched streaming updates.
laravel/docs #11416 and #11422: explain MCP OAuth registration and Hypervel's automatic rate limiting, and warn against user-selected upload filenames and embedded code in otherwise valid images.
inertiajs/docs #95: document initial-page component preloading and limiting Link headers, with Hypervel middleware and reverse-proxy examples.
Additional Hypervel Fixes
Add fluent skipLocked() support and connection-owned capability detection. Queue and outbox workers can skip locked rows on supported databases without duplicating version checks.
Apply supported index hints to writes and retain outbox ownership and eligibility conditions when claiming or deleting records. Keep claims bounded instead of broadening the locked selection.
Preserve coroutine cancellation through transaction callbacks, pruning and pooled-connection cleanup, including cancellation carried by a cleanup exception.
Restore cached in-memory SQLite databases through the physical test pool before installing refresh hooks. Document the single-session limit of in-memory SQLite pools.
Preserve exact numeric tokens when decoding JSON. Bound scientific-notation exponent expansion in decimal casts and numeric validation while retaining ordinary decimal precision and consistent compiled-validation behavior.
Clear stale Eloquent cast caches when raw attributes are replaced, preserve immutable date return types, and correct model-specific builder, collection and paginator types.
Record the separate cancellation audit and dependency follow-ups, and document the new database and queue behavior.
Affected tests, source and type-fixture analysis, skeleton analysis and formatting pass. The JWT setter regression fails before the correction and passes afterward. The full suite and database matrix run in CI.
Note
Improve database work claiming, cancellation handling, numeric validation, and JWT config
Adds a boolean skipLocked() query builder flag with SKIP LOCKED SQL compilation for MySQL/MariaDB/PostgreSQL. Connection::supportsSkipLocked() replaces PdoConnection::lockForPopping() as the capability check, and the outbox and queue claim paths now use lockForUpdate()->skipLocked() with retrying claims (see DatabaseOutboxRepository.php).
Index hints now apply to MySQL/MariaDB/SQLite update and delete queries through compileTableWithIndexHint() and the new hinted-delete compiler in MySqlGrammar.php.
Replaces direct CanceledException catches with Coroutine::causedByCancellation() across database transactions, connection pools, connection leases, and pruning, so wrapped cancellations are recognized and rethrown.
Numeric validation and decimal casts enforce a scientific-notation exponent limit (±1000 via Number::MAX_EXPONENT), throwing MathException past the bound; multiple_of failures return false instead of throwing. Adds Json::decodeNumbersAsStrings() and configurable releasePadding() on queue rate limiting.
JWT Lcobucci provider now lazily builds and caches its configuration, invalidating it on algorithm/secret/key changes so runtime reconfiguration works (Lcobucci.php).
Risk: MySqlConnection::resolveSupportsSkipLocked() and PdoConnection::supportsSkipLocked() rename the public lockForPopping() API; any out-of-tree callers or custom Connection subclasses relying on the old method or lock-clause result must be updated. RateLimited retry delay now uses the serialized releasePadding (default 3s, previously hard-coded).
Allow concise explanations beside intentional public API and behavior differences that a future upstream sync could revert or overwrite. Keep internal implementation comments governed by the existing usefulness rule and avoid annotations for mechanical porting changes.
Remove the blanket prohibition on divergence comments and clarify that the three-location documentation requirement applies to intentionally omitted features. Rename that rule to reflect its scope without changing the README or porting-guide criteria.
Add supportsSkipLocked to the concrete connection API without widening the driver-neutral interface. Reuse connection-local memoization and reset it when PDO resources are replaced or detached. Preserve configured server versions, MariaDB detection through both drivers, and MySQL, PostgreSQL and Vitess version thresholds.
Have Database Queue consume the shared capability while preserving its protected getLockForPopping signature and invocation. Remove superseded internal connection helpers and regenerate the DB facade metadata.
Retain existing queue caching coverage and extend capability tests for configured PostgreSQL versions and detached resources. Database and Queue suites and static analysis pass.
Introduce skipLocked after lockForUpdate or sharedLock without changing either existing method signature. Keep lock intent on the builder and compile the appropriate update or shared syntax for MySQL, MariaDB and PostgreSQL. Unsupported servers retain their normal lock behavior.
Reject combinations with custom string lock clauses in either setter order and document capability checks and queue-like claiming semantics. Keep custom string locks unchanged when the modifier is not used.
Cover supported and fallback grammars, fluent behavior and invalid combinations. Verify real two-connection contention through parallel testing on MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL and MariaDB using the MySQL driver. Formatting and static analysis pass.
Add a nonnegative releasePadding setter while preserving the existing three-second default. Apply padding to the limiter's calculated retry delay without adding storage access or replacing dynamic backoff.
Preserve fixed releaseAfter precedence, including an explicit zero, and serialize the configured padding with middleware options. Document the distinction between fixed delay and padding.
Exercise default and custom padding, subsecond rounding, long retry intervals, fixed overrides, negative input and serialization. Queue unit and rate-limiting integration tests, formatting and static analysis pass.
Guard both field-comparison operands before arbitrary-precision parsing and retain each operand's attribute identity for custom exponent policies. Route compiled multiple_of checks through the same guarded validation entry point as delegated execution, keeping developer-supplied rule literals trusted.
Treat malformed numeric input and rejected exponents as validation failures instead of application errors. Preserve protected calculation hooks and custom policies. When comparison message formatting encounters a rejected exponent, display the original trimmed value without expanding it or throwing again.
Share the default exponent bound and extraction through Number for reuse by decimal casts. Add concise explanations of intentional behavior differences and regressions covering both execution paths, callbacks, malformed values and rendered messages. The Validation suite, formatting and both static-analysis passes are clean.
Reject scientific-notation exponents outside -1000 to 1000 before request or Eloquent decimal casting can expand them into excessive allocations. Retain existing math-exception boundaries, rational input support and unrestricted ordinary decimal-string length.
Include integer inputs explicitly in Eloquent's decimal conversion signature so values above floating-point exactness are not rounded before parsing. Normalize NAN without PHP 8.5 coercion warnings before the existing parser rejects it.
Document the scientific-notation bound and appropriate request validation. Cover positive and negative boundaries, long explicit decimals, fractions, integer exactness and non-finite rejection through request extraction and model reads and serialization. Affected unit and integration suites, formatting and static analysis pass.
Record the database skip-locked capability and fluent query API, configurable queue retry padding, numeric validation guards, and bounded decimal casts in a framework-owned plan.
Preserve engine compatibility, protected extension points, exact integer handling, and targeted verification requirements. Keep the plan independent of application domains and record that implementation is verified with merging remaining.
Restore the shared in-memory PDO through DatabasePool instead of replacing only a logical connection lease. Setup can release and reborrow sessions without losing the cached migrated schema or its dispatcher.
Add testing-only restoration through DatabaseConnectionResolver, preserving unpooled and custom resolver paths. An already-restored PDO is a no-op; changing the shared PDO releases idle leases and rebuilds wrappers through the existing pool lifecycle.
Cover eager refresh, truncation across application lifecycles, and resolver restoration. Document single-session in-memory pool behavior without adding production query overhead or changing Laravel testing hooks.
Install the cached in-memory database before resolving the logical connection and registering lazy callbacks. A first query, cursor, or explicit session pin now uses the correct physical PDO while migration and transaction startup remain lazy.
Retain the ordinary restoration path as an identity-preserving no-op for an already-restored pool. Add focused coverage for query-first and pinned first-use behavior alongside existing transaction-first tests.
Record physical-pool ownership of cached SQLite PDO restoration, testing resolver boundaries, and eager and lazy refresh coverage. Keep framework planning independent of downstream applications and retain the existing Laravel testing extension points.
Mark the implemented correctness work as verified with merging remaining. Describe the single-session in-memory restriction and preserve the existing unpooled restoration path.
Integrate the transactional queue outbox, resolved connection transaction identity, and accompanying queue, cache, telemetry and documentation changes while preserving the branch's database locking, validation, decimal casting and pooled testing improvements.
Move incoming outbox claim selection from the retired internal lockForPopping helper to Connection::supportsSkipLocked. Use the fluent locking API for the ordinary skip-locked claim while preserving the optimized PostgreSQL CTE and conditional-update fallback. Update the existing live-engine test checks and remove the unused DatabaseQueue PDO import.
Verify the combined transaction ownership and pooled restoration behavior with static analysis, targeted database, queue, bus and Foundation tests, the Testbench package-mode suite, live MySQL, MariaDB and PostgreSQL locking and outbox claims, SQLite fallback claims, and end-to-end Redis outbox delivery.
Rename the testing resolver helper to restoreInMemoryPdoIfPooled so callers can distinguish an inapplicable pooled restore from a failed operation. False still means pooling is disabled and the normal restoration path should run.
Update both database testing traits, the resolver regression test and the framework plan. Preserve the signature, restoration behavior and tests-only scope without adding a compatibility alias or another pooling lookup.
Add Json::decodeNumbersAsStrings for API payloads whose numbers must retain their original precision and notation. Validate the original document before quoting numeric tokens, skip existing strings with a linear scan, and use native decoding for values, object shapes and depth errors.
Keep ordinary decoding unchanged. The scan avoids regular-expression limits on valid escaped strings. Cover exact decimals and large integers, exponent notation, escapes, malformed input and nesting boundaries. Formatting, full static analysis and the focused JSON tests pass.
Integrate the current maintenance, Saloon token-management and test-runner updates through dea38e9. Retain the branch additions for skip-locked queries, configurable queue retry padding, bounded decimal exponents, exact JSON numeric decoding and pooled in-memory database restoration.
The automatic merge preserves both migration-state invalidation and physical-pool restoration. Number formatting updates coexist with exponent handling, and documentation and query-builder tests retain both branches of changes. No manual conflict resolution or compatibility implementation was required.
Validation on the combined working state: formatting changed no files; both static-analysis configurations passed. The selected framework suite completed 15540 tests with 53930 assertions and 18 skips. Testbench package mode completed 655 tests with 2129 assertions and 3 skips. Standalone Testbench and AI package checks passed 6 and 12 tests respectively. The staged diff passed whitespace checks.
Use wildcard model specializations for the builder attribute, resolved-class cache and resolver return annotation. This accepts custom builders constrained to their owning model without changing runtime construction or public signatures.
Add a type regression covering the attribute with HasBuilder, a model subclass and a fluent terminal result. Full source and type analysis and the existing builder runtime tests pass.
Correct addMonths metadata to retain the calling CarbonImmutable subclass, including the optional anchor-day argument. Extend the type fixture and retain the existing runtime subclass coverage.
Track removal of local modifier annotations after a released Carbon generator fix supplies precise inherited return types.
Integrate framework, Testbench, queue cancellation and upstream package updates while retaining the branch database capabilities, exact numeric handling and model-specific builder types.
Resolve the DatabaseQueue import overlap by retaining both Coroutine and Connection. Preserve incoming cancellation handling and the existing supportsSkipLocked capability path.
Validated the combined merge with formatting, static analysis, framework tests, Testbench tests and both dogfood suites.
Recognize cancellation carried by callback and cleanup exceptions before query wrapping, failure reporting and retry decisions. Keep canceled transaction failures intact even when cleanup reports a deadlock.
Stop commit callbacks on cancellation, finish rollback cleanup, and preserve cancellation priority through transaction notifications, recovery, disconnect and retained-connection termination. Retain native-only checks and existing public APIs.
Extend existing query, callback, rollback and connection cleanup regressions. Validated with full formatting, static analysis, framework, Testbench and dogfood checks.
Prevent cached class casts and Attribute objects from overwriting newly supplied raw attributes when setRawAttributes synchronizes originals. Clear both caches before syncOriginal while preserving unsynchronized replacement behavior and public signatures.
Cover both cache paths with synchronized and unsynchronized regression cases. Update the framework plan and its completion status.
Validated formatting, all static-analysis stages, 356 affected Eloquent tests and 116 permission cache and registrar tests on the combined working state.
Describe keyed eager constraints, aggregate Builder callbacks and class-keyed morph maps across models, collections and paginators. Include fresh() forwarding and callable eager array inputs while preserving native signatures and runtime behavior.
Adapt morph type fixtures to supported inputs and verify callback inference, invokable constraints and fluent returns. Source, type-fixture and skeleton analysis pass; affected Eloquent tests and subscription consumer tests pass on the combined working state.
Compile explicit MySQL and MariaDB index hints on supported DELETE forms,
preserving target aliases, table prefixes and join bindings. Keep unhinted
SQL and ordered or limited unjoined deletes unchanged. Apply SQLite forced
indexes to plain deletes and retain its existing selection subqueries for
joined writes and writes with limits or offsets.
Share the write-table hint compilation with UPDATE and explain the
intentional Laravel difference beside the grammars. Document missing-index
errors and the important limit that an ID-only delete or locking read can
still choose a covering scan. Hints are not a universal lock-confinement
guarantee; callers must preserve real ownership and eligibility predicates.
Select only outbox IDs and original eligibility during InnoDB claims so
the due index can satisfy the locking read without sorting and locking
rows beyond the batch. Update the selected IDs, then read their message
bodies through the primary key while retaining the lease predicate.
Share that owned-row lookup with conditional claims and leave PostgreSQL's
single-statement claim intact.
Apply the primary-index gate to exact-ID claim, settlement and retry
mutations. Build failed-release CASE updates through the query builder,
inlining only internally generated integer deadlines and keeping external
values bound. Allow three transaction attempts because concurrent scans
of a nearly empty due index can deadlock when lease updates move entries
into the shared end gap; rollback preserves single attempt accounting.
Extend grammar and native tests for hinted deletes, joined aliases,
missing indexes, lease ownership, bounded concurrent claims and gap-lock
retries. Verify that both relays make progress without requiring full
SKIP LOCKED batches, and that a rolled-back claim does not double-count.
Validation: formatting and source/type/skeleton analysis; Database and
Queue suites with affected tests rerun after corrections; native cases on
MySQL 5.7, 8.4 and 9.5, MariaDB 10.11 and 12.3, PostgreSQL and SQLite;
Redis dispatch/relay/worker delivery against MySQL. MariaDB 12.3 coverage
includes its default snapshot isolation under REPEATABLE READ.
Integrate the current local 0.4 tip while retaining the branch's database
capability API, structured skip-locked queries, write index hints, outbox
claim isolation, cancellation propagation, decimal guards and exact JSON
number decoding. Preserve the incoming query, model, connection, validation
and worker-lifetime improvements rather than selecting either side wholesale.
Resolve raw-attribute replacement with the incoming four cast-cache resets
before original synchronization, retaining the upstream-difference comment
and distinct regression cases. Reconcile relationship-loader types with the
incoming morph-alias behavior: permit integer and string aliases, preserve
Relation versus Builder callback inference, and use empty-array constraints
for aggregates. Align both paginator families and their type fixtures.
Keep supportsSkipLocked() as the shared boolean capability while adopting
the incoming MariaDB 10.11 baseline and its connection changes. Preserve
configured version overrides. Mark the new paging coordination helpers as
internal while retaining public driver-builder extension hooks. Update the
active framework plan to describe the combined implementation.
Validation on PHP 8.4.26:
- composer fix passed formatting, source/type/skeleton analysis, the main
parallel suite (54,419 tests, 194,569 assertions, 4,214 reported skips),
Testbench (658 tests, 2,136 assertions, 3 skips), and both dogfood suites
(6 tests/13 assertions and 12 tests/376 assertions).
- Edited PDO capability tests passed (84 tests, 411 assertions); loader
type fixtures passed after each edit and after duplicate-case removal.
- The complete database runner passed on MySQL 5.7.44, 8.4.13 and 9.7.4;
MariaDB 10.11.19, 11.8.9 and 12.3.3; PostgreSQL 17.11 and 18.6; and SQLite.
Runs include package-specific native suites and contention regressions.
- Targeted analysis and formatting passed for the final internal-hook
annotations. Both staged and working-tree whitespace checks passed.
PHP 8.5 was not available locally and remains a required PR CI check.
Default Vitess advertises a MySQL version followed by a capitalized Vitess suffix. Keep that value on the MySQL comparison path; matching it case-insensitively would compare the MySQL version against the Vitess 19.0 threshold and disable skip-locked incorrectly.
Document why release-number overrides use the separate branch so future cleanup or upstream synchronization preserves the distinction. This changes comments only. Verified against Vitess server-version source, the existing capability tests and Laravel queue detection; git diff --check passes.
Integrate skip-locked query support, write index hints, bounded outbox claims, configurable queue release padding, exact JSON numbers, numeric parsing safeguards, pooled SQLite test restoration and callback cancellation handling. Preserve the current validation, queue payload and cast-cache behavior while reconciling framework types.
Propagate chained cancellation through pruning and pooled connection destruction, keep multiple-of validation in its owning method, and share decimal exponent checks. Preserve the incoming branch history and exclude deferred subprocess test cleanup.
Verified affected tests, SQLite integration, source/type/skeleton analysis, Testbench package mode with one worker, formatting and generated facade consistency. Full-suite and native database verification remain assigned to PR CI.
Port tymondesigns/jwt-auth #2304 from 99e8f24cf96bfb6d847597c6a80713879a0a19c1. Defer configuration rebuilding until the provider is used so changing the algorithm before its keys succeeds. Keep configuration failures outside token-error handling, preserve parsed-key reuse and verification-only providers, and retain the upstream protected extension points.
Merge the upstream setter regressions with existing coverage and check missing keys during both encoding and decoding. The affected test file, source/type/skeleton analysis and changed-file formatting pass.
Port laravel/docs #11415 and formatting commit 76d30af91d459b4333de30f00d9212b03b5abda3 from target b0d9ce8a6ab417d7ebef2423fb4682b7d9d8dfe1. Describe classification model selection, stopping runs and the sub-agent approval limitation, while preserving Hypervel's batched streaming updates and existing conversation behavior.
Checked examples against the middleware, tool and classification implementations and verified internal anchors.
Port laravel/docs #11416 from target b0d9ce8a6ab417d7ebef2423fb4682b7d9d8dfe1. Explain public registration, its database writes and the registration toggle. Document Hypervel's automatic Passport limiter instead of adding a duplicate application throttle group.
Verified against Registrar::oauthRoutes and Passport configuration.
Port laravel/docs #11422 from b0d9ce8a6ab417d7ebef2423fb4682b7d9d8dfe1. Explain why MIME validation does not remove embedded code and recommend generated storage names. Condition PHP execution risk on the web server's configuration.
Compared the final upstream documentation and traced file storage and MIME validation.
Port inertiajs/docs #95 from f55db8196b7fa8723875e76d1e78c5c3e8077af1. Show initial component preloading for Vue, React and Svelte and explain limiting Link headers or increasing reverse-proxy buffers.
Adapt examples to Hypervel middleware and omit Laravel-version and starter-kit assumptions. Verified the root-template page data and middleware APIs.
Record a separate audit of supported callback, fallback and I/O paths where cleanup failures can hide coroutine cancellation. Require focused evidence and regression coverage while retaining valid native checks and cancellation ownership boundaries.
This PR updates database locking and write queries, cancellation handling, decimal casting and validation, pooled SQLite restoration, JSON decoding, JWT configuration, queue retry delays, Eloquent typing, and documentation. It also adds regression and integration tests for these changes.
Changes: Database locking, writes, and outbox claims
Connections expose supportsSkipLocked() as a boolean. Query builders validate skipLocked(), and supported grammars add the clause to boolean locks. Queue code checks the capability. Tests cover server versions, generated SQL, and locked rows.
Write index hints src/database/src/Query/Grammars/*, tests/Database/DatabaseQueryBuilderTest.php, tests/Integration/Database/WriteIndexHintTest.php, src/docs/queries.md
MySQL and SQLite grammars apply index hints to supported delete forms. Tests cover SQL generation, affected rows, and missing indexes.
Outbox claim and settlement queries src/queue/src/Outbox/DatabaseOutboxRepository.php, tests/Integration/Queue/Fixtures/OutboxClaimTestCase.php
Outbox claims select candidate IDs under lock, update leases, and reread claimed rows. Settlement and retry updates use ID filters. Concurrency tests cover competing claims and batch mutations.
Cancellation checks use Coroutine::causedByCancellation() across query, transaction, cleanup, pruning, and connection termination paths. Tests cover wrapped cancellation, retry exclusion, and exception precedence.
Decimal casting and numeric validation

Summary
Exponent limits and decimal casts src/support/src/Number.php, src/foundation/src/Http/Concerns/HasCasts.php, src/database/src/Eloquent/Concerns/HasAttributes.php, tests/Foundation/Http/FormRequestCastingTest.php, tests/Integration/Database/EloquentModelDecimalCastingTest.php
Number defines an exponent limit of 1000 and helper methods. HTTP and Eloquent decimal casts check exponents; tests cover boundaries, precision, and NAN.
Numeric comparisons and multiple-of validation src/validation/src/Concerns/ValidatesAttributes.php, src/validation/src/Concerns/ReplacesAttributes.php, src/validation/src/PlanExecutor.php, tests/Validation/ValidationCompiledExecutionTest.php
Numeric comparisons check operand exponents. multiple_of uses the validation method in compiled execution. Math errors produce validation failures, and replacement text handles MathException.
Testing refresh paths restore a cached in-memory SQLite PDO as the pool’s shared PDO. Lazy refresh restores it before query callbacks are registered. Tests cover retained data and pinned sessions.
Exact JSON number decoding
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Validate and preserve numeric tokens src/support/src/Json.php, tests/Support/JsonTest.php
Json::decodeNumbersAsStrings() validates JSON before quoting numeric tokens outside strings, then decodes with the requested association mode and depth. Tests cover lexical form, object shape, invalid input, and nesting depth.
JWT configuration refresh
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Rebuild configuration on next use src/jwt/src/Providers/Lcobucci.php, src/jwt/src/Providers/Provider.php, tests/Jwt/Providers/LcobucciTest.php
The provider clears cached configuration after settings change and rebuilds it on access. Tests cover algorithm changes, secret rotation, and missing keys.
Rate-limited middleware uses configurable non-negative release padding, defaulting to three seconds. Explicit release delays take precedence, and serialization includes the padding.
PHPDoc and type fixtures describe generic custom builders, nested relationship specifications, and relation or builder callback types. Runtime signatures remain unchanged.
Raw-attribute replacement and cache behavior src/database/src/Eloquent/Concerns/HasAttributes.php, tests/Database/DatabaseConcernsHasAttributesTest.php
The comment describes cache clearing when originals are synchronized. Tests cover replacement values, cached casts and accessors, and synchronization state.

The following are alternative approaches to this PR:
1. Centralize all work claiming in a shared service
➕ Could give queue and outbox consumers one claim-policy entry point.
➖ Would couple distinct job-pop and outbox settlement contracts.
➖ Would obscure the PostgreSQL statement and conditional-update fallback.
2. Use a dedicated JSON tokenizer
➕ Could provide reusable tokenization for future exact-number features.
➖ Adds a parser dependency or substantial parser surface for one opt-in decoding method.
Recommendation: Keep the PR's targeted approach: share the server capability and fluent lock intent, but leave each consumer's claim protocol local. Review native outbox contention and JSON token boundaries particularly closely; neither alternative presently justifies its added scope.
• Carries skip-locked intent after a standard update or shared lock and rejects combinations with custom lock strings. Marks existing paging hooks as internal.

MySqlGrammar::compileLock() appends skip locked to MariaDB's lock in share mode clause when
sharedLock()->skipLocked() is used. The builder permits that combination, but MariaDB does not
accept SKIP LOCKED with LOCK IN SHARE MODE, so executing the generated query fails.
sharedLock() sets the boolean lock to false, and skipLocked() accepts it. The new grammar branch
then constructs lock in share mode skip locked; the added test asserts that exact output.
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution
## Issue description
MariaDB shared-lock queries compile to `LOCK IN SHARE MODE SKIP LOCKED`, which MariaDB does not accept.
## Fix Focus Areas
- src/database/src/Query/Grammars/MySqlGrammar.php[364-367]
- src/database/src/Query/Builder.php[3012-3021]
- tests/Database/DatabaseQueryBuilderTest.php[6934-6940]
## Recommended Fix
Reject `sharedLock()->skipLocked()` for MariaDB with a clear exception rather than emitting invalid SQL. Update the grammar test and cover the supported update-lock path separately.

2. Pinned tests keep the old SQLite database✓ Resolved
Description
restoreInMemoryPdoIfPooled() releases idle connections and replaces the pool's shared PDO without
handling a session that is already pinned. If setup code pins a pooled connection before
restoration, later queries through that connection continue using the old in-memory database while
new borrowers receive the restored one.
Idle release deliberately skips pinned sessions, and pool restoration drains only idle connections.
The resolver reuses an existing coroutine-held logical connection, so that connection need not
borrow the newly restored PDO.
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution
## Issue description
Restoring the pool's shared in-memory SQLite PDO leaves already-pinned sessions attached to the previous database.
## Fix Focus Areas
- src/foundation/src/Testing/DatabaseConnectionResolver.php[324-333]
- src/database/src/Pool/DatabasePool.php[140-147]
## Recommended Fix
Detect outstanding pinned sessions before changing the shared PDO. Safely release or replace them where possible; otherwise fail restoration with a clear error instead of allowing one test to use two database instances. Add a regression test that pins a session before restoration.

same "not a custom lock clause" message as a real custom string. Calling
->skipLocked()->lockForUpdate(), the likeliest mistake, gives a message that names a custom lock
clause the caller never used.
+ if (! is_bool($this->lock)) {+ throw new InvalidArgumentException('Skip locked requires lockForUpdate() or sharedLock(), not a custom lock clause.');+ }
Evidence
$lock defaults to null (line 216), and is_bool(null) is false, so calling skipLocked() before
any lock reaches the custom-clause exception at 3015.
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution
## Issue description
`skipLocked()` throws 'not a custom lock clause' even when no lock has been set yet, which misleads callers who invoke it before `lockForUpdate()`.
## Fix Focus Areas
- src/database/src/Query/Builder.php[3012-3021]
## Recommended Fix
If `$this->lock === null`, throw an InvalidArgumentException stating that skipLocked() must be called after lockForUpdate() or sharedLock(); keep the existing message for string locks. Add a test covering the call-before-lock order.

Drain all idle connections when cleanup wraps coroutine cancellation, and discard an unreturned borrow when maintenance is cancelled. Preserve cancellation precedence through failed logical-connection acquisition and cleanup without hiding genuine secondary cleanup errors.
Extend direct-cancellation coverage with wrapped failures and exercise lazy lease reacquisition. The affected test files, targeted source analysis and formatting pass; the added cases fail before the fixes.
Prevent a restored in-memory SQLite pool from retaining a borrowed wrapper on its old PDO. Fail before draining or replacing state; callers can restore once their pinned session ends.
The regression covers rejection without mutation and successful restoration after unpinning. Existing pooled refresh, lazy refresh and truncation tests pass.
Use one accurate message for missing and custom lock clauses. Keep the existing guard and cover all three invalid call shapes with exact exception-message assertions.
The query builder test file, targeted analysis and formatting pass.
Add method titles to the request and Eloquent decimal parsing providers. Both affected test files pass, with the Eloquent cases using in-memory SQLite.
Note: CodeRabbit is an incremental review system and does not re-review already reviewed commits. This command is applicable only when automatic reviews are paused.
The pool cleanup, SQLite restoration and skipLocked() message findings are fixed. The MariaDB syntax concern does not apply to the supported versions and is covered by the existing database contention tests.
The external-contributor template checklist does not apply to this maintainer PR. Required method docblocks were added; percentage-only docstring coverage does not require further changes. The PHPMD memory error is a review-tool resource limit, not a project check failure. Focused regression checks and source analysis pass; the full suite and database matrix run in CI.

src/queue/src/DatabaseQueue.php:633-640 Major · Data Integrity & Integration · Quick win
Keep resolveLockForPopping() as the lock hook for custom PDO connections.
Removing the PdoConnection::lockForPopping() and resolveLockForPopping() hook makes custom overrides ineffective. DatabaseQueue::getLockForPopping() no longer calls them. A custom subclass that overrides resolveLockForPopping() to supply its driver's lock clause has that override ignored. When the default capability is false, the queue uses true, and the grammar emits no lock clause for it. Concurrent workers can then select the same available job. markJobAsReserved() updates that job by id only, so both workers can reserve it.
Keep the skip-locked decision inside the hook. The default hook uses supportsSkipLocked(). The queue then calls the connection's hook for every PdoConnection.
Suggested fix
public function supportsSkipLocked(): bool
{
return $this->supportsSkipLocked ??= $this->resolveSupportsSkipLocked();
}
+ /**+ * Get the lock clause supported when popping queued jobs.+ *+ * @internal+ */+ public function lockForPopping(): bool|string+ {+ return $this->resolveLockForPopping();+ }++ /**+ * Resolve the lock clause supported when popping queued jobs.+ */+ protected function resolveLockForPopping(): bool|string+ {+ return $this->supportsSkipLocked() ? 'FOR UPDATE SKIP LOCKED' : true;+ }
This change keeps the default behavior for a plain PdoConnection, which returns true. It keeps FOR UPDATE SKIP LOCKED on supported MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL servers. It also keeps the existing supportsSkipLocked() contract for grammars and the outbox. Add the PdoConnection import in DatabaseQueue.php if the file does not already import it.

Update DatabaseQueue::getLockForPopping() to delegate lock selection to every
PdoConnection’s lockForPopping() hook, returning the existing fallback for other
connections. Preserve resolveLockForPopping() as the overridable default hook,
with its default decision based on supportsSkipLocked(), so custom PDO
connection overrides remain effective.

No change for the queue-lock hook finding. PdoConnection::lockForPopping() and resolveLockForPopping() were internal Hypervel-specific helpers, not Laravel APIs. This unreleased 0.4 change deliberately replaces them with the connection capability shared by the query builder, queue and outbox. Driver-specific lock SQL remains owned by the grammar, and DatabaseQueue::getLockForPopping() remains overridable. The supported drivers retain their locking behavior and pass the database CI matrix. Restoring the old hook would add a parallel compatibility surface for an API this change intentionally replaces.
