Microsoft.Data.SqlClient 6.1.6 adds Microsoft.Identity.Client.Broker, which can drastically increase published app size.

  • Breaking change: Add a low-impact SQL Server entry to the EF Core 10 breaking changes page and summary table.
  • Mitigation: Recommend explicitly referencing SqlClient 7.1.x for apps that don't need Azure SQL, with a link to the EF Core 11 documentation for authentication dependency details.

#### Mitigations

If your application doesn't need to connect to Azure SQL, explicitly reference Microsoft.Data.SqlClient 7.1.x in your project to override the version used by EF Core. Starting with version 7.0, Microsoft.Data.SqlClient no longer includes Azure/Entra ID authentication dependencies in its core package.

@copilot Clarify that it's a required dependency to use Entra ID, not Azure SQL in general

Clarified that Microsoft.Identity.Client.Broker is required for Microsoft Entra ID authentication and changed the mitigation to refer to Entra ID use rather than Azure SQL connectivity. Commit: af2f570.
