Five places where the program said something untrue or never answered. Each was reproduced with a command first, each fix has a guard that was red on the code before it, and 22 mutation entries name those guards.

What changes for a user

  • A size with a decimal point is read to the byte. --size 255.99999999999999B made a 256 B file and 9007199254740993.0B planned one a byte short, both without a word. The digits are now read exactly (math/big, already linked), and a fraction that is not a whole number of bytes is refused with the two whole numbers around it. Every size that lands on a whole byte reads as it did. A hostile size (millions of digits) is answered at once.
  • upload-validation and size-boundaries refuse a limit too large for their set. A limit of 1844674407370955264B at --far-over 10x wrapped the far file round to 1024 B, under the limit, with the manifest still expecting it to be refused. A limit with no room above it was advised to be raised in upload-validation, and ended with code 1 (a fault of the tool) in size-boundaries. Both now refuse with code 4 and say how large the limit can be.
  • An EML message above 2^60 B is refused at once. With its text in base64, a message near the largest int64 never finished planning, and the other encodings planned 9 EiB. The whole message is now held to the ceiling the attachments already were.
  • tabular-import no longer promises a spreadsheet wider than 16384 columns is read whole. Past that width sheet.xlsx is unspecified for count_limit, like the wide CSV beside it.
  • A picture too low for its label no longer says it carries one. A BMP 512x1 said label_embedded: true with no text in it. Every image format and both film formats now say false with a label_omitted note when the text is not whole. The pixels are unchanged - eleven golden cases of low pictures were recorded on the code before the change (first commit) and still match.

Checking it

tfg preset eject upload-validation --allow txt --deny exe --bulk 0 --limit 1844674407370955264B --far-over 10x
tfg generate --format bmp --size 2kb --set width=512 --set height=1 --dry-run --json
tfg generate --format eml --size 9223372036854775807B --set text_encoding=base64 --dry-run
tfg generate --preset tabular-import --rows 1 --columns 16385 --dry-run --json
tfg generate --format txt --size 255.99999999999999B --dry-run

Expected: code 4 naming the largest limit; label_embedded: false with label_omitted; code 4 at once; sheet.xlsx unspecified/count_limit; code 2, "falls between 255 and 256".

Verified locally

  • Every new guard red before its fix and green after.
  • Golden bytes of every generator unchanged, the eleven new low-picture cases included.
  • Cheap gates of the whole tree, the preset, image, film and EML guards, FuzzParseSize for 60 s (1 010 245 runs, no failure), and a user journey over the built binary (356 of 356).

Not checked: how the window lays out the new sentences, formats other than EML at the largest size with non-default settings, and Excel past 16384 columns (hence unspecified rather than reject).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Fractional sizes that do not equal a whole number of bytes are now rejected with the adjacent valid whole-byte values.
    • Limits that cannot accommodate required boundary files are rejected with a usable maximum. Email sizes above 1 EiB are also rejected, including during dry runs.
    • Spreadsheets wider than 16,384 columns are reported as unspecified with a count_limit reason.
    • Images and films with labels that do not fit completely are reported as not carrying an embedded label, with a label_omitted note.

Eleven formats draw the label into pixels, and none of the golden cases
had a picture low enough to cut its text. These values are measured on
the code as it is, before the manifest learns to say such a label cannot
be read, so they show that the change moves the manifest and not a byte.

A size with a decimal point went through float64, so a fraction finer
than 53 bits was rounded before anyone asked whether it was whole:
255.99999999999999B planned 256 B and 9007199254740993.0B a byte less
than asked, each without a word. The digits are now read exactly, and a
fraction that is not a whole number of bytes is refused with the two
whole numbers around it. A size that lands on a whole byte reads as it
did, below 2^53 by construction and above it now correctly.

A hostile size is answered without reading all of it: exact arithmetic
reads digits in quadratic time, so more than nineteen digits before the
point is too large and only sixty after it decide the byte below. One
sign is allowed, not one of each.

The file far over the limit in upload-validation is the limit times
far-over, and nothing asked whether the product fitted: a limit of
1844674407370955264B at 10x made a file of 1024 B, under the limit, that
the manifest still expected to be refused. And the check for a limit with
no room above it lived in size-boundaries alone, so upload-validation let
the step over the limit wrap and advised raising it.

The room above the limit is now asked of every set laid out around one,
in limitSet, and the product is asked after it. Both refusals are a
preset's refusal, so the command line ends with code 4 - size-boundaries
ended with code 1, a fault of the tool - and the one about the limit is
still the refusal --boundary gives.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
maxMessage was said to be the largest message this format plans, and
only the attachments were held to it. A text in base64 at
9223372036854775807B or one byte less never came back: near the top of
int64 the length of the encoded words wraps round, the search for how
many words fit is handed a size that does not grow with them, and what
it leaves goes to empty lines, billions of them. The other encodings
planned a message of 9 EiB.

The size asked for is now refused above 2^60 before anything is counted
at it, in every encoding, with the four parts of a refusal of size.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
tabular-import expected sheet.xlsx to be accepted, certain, at every
width it takes, up to 32768 columns. A spreadsheet shows 16384 and drops
the rest without a word - measured with LibreOffice Calc - so past that
the promise is one the reader it is written for breaks. The sheet is now
unspecified for count_limit there, as the wide CSV beside it already
was, and the width is one named number used by both sentences.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…arried

The label is drawn at a scale chosen from the width, so a low picture
draws it and cuts it off, and the manifest asked only the width: a BMP
512 px wide and 1 px tall said label_embedded true with not one pixel of
text in it, and so did nine more image formats and both films.

imagelabel now says whether the text of a label is whole in the picture,
and Claim is the one place the eleven formats get the answer and the note
from - label_omitted, the code they already use, with the height the text
needs. Drawing still asks the width alone, so the pixels are what they
were: the low pictures pinned before this change hash the same.

Walkthrough

The changes update decimal size parsing, preset and EML size limits, spreadsheet width expectations, and image and film label reporting. Tests, mutation cases, locale messages, and golden fixtures cover these changes.

Changes: Exact size parsing

Layer / File(s) Summary
Decimal parsing
internal/core/size.go
ParseSize uses integer arithmetic for decimal inputs. It refuses fractional-byte results with the adjacent whole-byte values, oversized values, long fractions, and repeated signs.
Parsing tests and messages
internal/guard/size_test.go, internal/guard/mutation/entries.py, internal/guard/mutationcoverage_test.go, internal/gui/text/locale/said/*, CHANGELOG.md
Tests cover exact conversions, refusals, and malformed inputs. Locale messages and the changelog describe the updated size errors.

Preset size limits

Layer / File(s) Summary
Boundary-file limits
internal/preset/limitset.go, internal/preset/sizeboundaries.go, internal/preset/preset.go, internal/core/size.go, internal/guard/presetlimits_test.go, internal/guard/mutation/entries.py, internal/gui/text/locale/said/*, CHANGELOG.md
Preset expansion checks for upward overflow and returns an ImpossibleError with the boundary-too-large cause. Tests cover large limits and the returned refusal.
Far-over size limits
internal/preset/uploadset.go, internal/guard/presetlimits_test.go, internal/guard/mutation/entries.py, internal/gui/text/locale/said/en.json
upload-validation rejects far-over products that exceed the representable size and reports the maximum usable limit. Tests cover the largest fitting limit and the next value above it.

EML size ceiling

Layer / File(s) Summary
EML maximum-size handling
internal/format/eml/eml.go, internal/guard/eml_test.go, internal/guard/mutation/entries.py, internal/gui/text/locale/said/*, CHANGELOG.md
EML planning refuses requests above 1 EiB. Tests cover three encodings, requests near the signed 64-bit maximum, and the exact limit.

Spreadsheet width expectations

Layer / File(s) Summary
Spreadsheet column limit
internal/preset/tabularimport.go, internal/guard/tabularset_test.go, internal/guard/mutation/entries.py, CHANGELOG.md
tabular-import expects acceptance through 16,384 columns. Wider spreadsheets have an unspecified result with reason count_limit.

Image and film label readability

Layer / File(s) Summary
Shared label check and format integration
internal/format/imagelabel/imagelabel.go, internal/format/{avif,bmp,gif,ico,jpg,jxl,png,tiff,webp}/*, internal/format/video/*
The shared label helper checks whether the full text fits the picture height. Image and film planners use it to set the embedded-label status and notes.
Label reporting checks and messages
internal/guard/labelclaim_test.go, internal/guard/generatorbytes*, internal/guard/testdata/generator-golden.json, internal/guard/mutation/entries.py, internal/gui/text/locale/said/*, CHANGELOG.md
Tests and golden fixtures cover clipped labels across formats. Locale messages describe the omitted-label case.

Change: Bug fix

The changes remain mergeable with owner awareness, but some boundary requests give misleading results and a short film can report a label that cannot be read. Correcting those cases and strengthening the label checks before merge is preferable.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title uses the conventional fix: prefix and names five concrete behavior corrections (decimal sizes, preset limits, EML ceiling, wide sheets, cut labels). Each named area matches a file group in the changeset, so the title describes the main change. It is long (119 characters) and lists five items, but it is specific and not vague. It does not state user-facing impact in plain words, such as the change from silently wrong output to a refusal with code 4.

Full details: Tests For Changed Behavior

Explanation

PASS. The PR adds or updates tests for each changed runtime behavior: exact decimal parsing and hostile inputs, preset overflow and far_over limits, EML ceilings across encodings, spreadsheet widths 16,384/16,385/32,768, and label metadata for all registered image and film formats. Golden cases also verify unchanged generated bytes. No test function was deleted or weakened; the only removed test-file line removes an outdated mutation-coverage exemption.

Full details: No Secrets Or Debug Leftovers

Explanation

PASS. The pull-request diff adds no CLAUDE.md, CLAUDE.local.md, AGENTS.md, .claude/, or .env files. Added lines contain no detected credentials, tokens, private URLs, absolute local paths, IP addresses, personal email addresses, or debug-print/breakpoint calls.

Full details: No Hardcoded Ui Styling

Explanation

The pull request does not add or change GUI implementation code. Its only GUI-path changes are localization JSON entries under internal/gui/text/locale/said/; they define messages, not control colors, fonts, spacing, dimensions, radii, or reusable controls.

Full details: No Obvious Performance Problems

Explanation

No clear performance problem is introduced. Decimal parsing keeps arbitrary-precision work bounded: it rejects oversized whole parts early and reads at most 60 fractional digits before using math/big; the remaining work is linear input validation. imagelabel.Claim and Readable perform constant-time arithmetic. Preset checks add linear scans over existing bounded target lists. The EML ceiling prevents the prior oversized search from running.

Full details: Desktop Robustness

Explanation

The changed production code only updates size parsing, validation, preset planning, label metadata, and localized messages. The diff adds no working-directory asset loads, file writes, network calls, admin requests, destructive actions, or window/background lifecycle work. The EML change adds an early maximum-size refusal before the existing expensive sizing path. Numeric parsing uses locale-independent strconv and bounded math/big arithmetic. The goroutines added for timeout tests are test-only.

Full details: Safe File Parsing

Explanation

No unsafe file parsing change is introduced. Production changes do not add file, archive, CSV, XLSX, XML, or JSON parsing or writing. The new test helper uses the existing recipe.Parse API on generated in-memory YAML; that parser enforces a 1 MiB limit, nesting limit, strict decoding, and panic recovery. New JSON fixtures and locale files are static, valid JSON with no duplicate keys. The golden test reads a fixed repository path and unmarshals into typed structs. No external entities, arbitrary-type deserialization, formula output, path traversal, or new malformed-input hang path is present.

Full details: System Changes Are Reversible

Explanation

The check is not applicable. The PR changes size parsing, format planning, preset validation, spreadsheet expectations, label metadata, tests, and locale text. The reviewed diff adds no network filters, proxy or firewall rules, system-time changes, process hooking/injection, Windows services, registry writes, or driver changes. No system state requires save/restore handling.

Full details: Clear User-Facing Text

Explanation

PASS. The PR adds clear user-facing text in the English and Polish catalogues. New refusals state the limit, requested size, or label dimensions, explain the cause, and give an action with units where needed (internal/format/eml/eml.go:118-127, internal/preset/uploadset.go:275-280, internal/format/imagelabel/imagelabel.go:127-131). The decimal-size message names the two valid byte values. No changed control, confirmation, raw exception, or vague button label was found.

Full details: Scope, Duplication And Docs

Explanation

The PR scope matches the title and description. The five implementation changes are decimal size parsing, preset-limit validation, the EML ceiling, spreadsheet-width expectations, and label metadata. The other changed files are shared helpers, locale strings, tests, mutation entries, or golden fixtures for those fixes. internal/format/imagelabel centralizes the new label-readability logic, and preset validation is shared through limitSet.reachable; no duplicate feature or architecture bypass was found. CHANGELOG.md documents all five user-facing changes. The diff adds no CLI argument, configuration format, persisted-data schema, or external public API change that requires a Breaking changes section.

Full details: No Resource Leaks

Explanation

The PR adds timeout goroutines without a stop path. internal/guard/eml_test.go:233-245 starts a goroutine for d.Generator.Plan; after time. After fires, the test reports an error but leaves that goroutine running. internal/guard/size_test.go:168-180 has the same issue for core.ParseSize. A hung plan or parse can therefore leave work and memory accumulating while the test continues.

Resolution

Use cancellation that the operation checks and wait for the goroutine to exit before continuing. For Plan, use PlanContext with cancellation and add checks in the expensive path. For ParseSize, add a cancellable parsing API or run the timeout check in a child process; kill and wait for the child on timeout. Do not proceed with an orphaned goroutine.

limit is math.MaxInt64-o.bytes and tell the user to choose a limit at or below
that value. Preserve Cause as core.ErrBoundaryTooLarge so errors. Is continues to

Account for the square when reporting label readability.

For a 1920×64 film, Readable returns true, but geometryOf and drawIn in internal/format/video/picture.go place the first 64×64 square over the label’s first characters. If the change interval is at least the film duration, the label stays obscured throughout the film. The manifest still reports label_embedded: true without a note. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Include square overlap in the film’s label claim and add an omission note without changing the pixels. Update the guard to cover a one-picture film.

As per path instructions, “The manifest is the record of a run” and must match what was written.

Review comment at @internal/format/video/choose.go at line 82:
Update the film label-readability decision that combines Labelled and
imagelabel.Readable to account for the initial square obscuring the label; when
that makes the label unreadable, report label_embedded as false and add the
omission note to the manifest. Ensure the guard also applies to one-picture
films, without changing rendered pixels.

…label boundary

From the review of #206:

- The EML ceiling is asked at the start of PlanContext, before the files
a message carries are planned. Three attachments of 2^59 B at the
largest size answered about the attachments rather than the size asked.
- A limit with no room for the farthest step of its spread is refused in
the preset's own words, naming that step and the largest limit that
fits. With a spread of 10b and a limit two bytes under the top, the
sentence of --boundary said there was no number above it. The refusal
is still core.ErrBoundaryTooLarge to errors. Is, and the core sentence
  is back as it was.
- The label guard asks the height boundary against the pixels Draw puts
down, at each scale, and refuses a missing or non-boolean label_embedded.

The mutation run on 16ffd3b left two entries unproven. "+-5.5" was
refused with or without the one-sign rule, because 5.5 B is not a whole
number of bytes, so the guard could not tell the two apart - "+-1.5kb"
is 1536 B once a sign is dropped, and now it can. The film entry took
away the only use of imagelabel in choose.go and did not compile; it now
asks a height no label needs instead. Both proved locally with
try-named, with every other entry naming the guards this PR touches.

The cut-label cases gave png a second golden case, so turning the first
one into txt left png pinned and the mutation run reported a hole. svg
has a single case.
