- Around line 1227-1228: Update the save flow around _sync_env_from_config_file
to return an error instead of reporting success when synchronization returns
None, and remove the fallback that masks this failure. Update
_parse_config_lines or its caller so an absent config file is distinguishable
from a readable empty file, preserving the appropriate synchronization behavior
for each.
Review comments at @docs/configuration.md:
- Line 26: Update the environment-variable precedence sentence in the
configuration documentation to state that after removing an overriding Docker
variable, the container must be restarted or recreated before the saved WebUI
value takes effect.

- Around line 3420-3421: Update the three-positional-argument startup path in
_load_config() to call _snapshot_docker_env() before the first reload, so
Docker-provided keys are recorded in _docker_env_vars and this branch does not
overwrite them. Ensure both startup paths capture Docker-set keys before
reloading configuration.

before returning it as `docker_set` in the JSON response, so the response
reports only overrides associated with settings saved by this request.

in the test around `WebUIHandler` with a test-local stub that dispatches
requests directly to `WebUIHandler` without opening a network connection.
Preserve the existing response assertions.

… can't land after a newer save

Summary
The Settings form posts every field, and a save copied each one straight into
os.environ. A value set by a Docker variable was meant to win overbeatscheck.conf, and the config reload already skips those. But the save overwrote them in the running process. With-e MODE=report, saving only a new Lidarr URL also posted the file'smode = setup, and the container stopped scanning until it restarted. After the restart, Docker's value came back. Now:
_sync_env_from_config_file(new, inmain.py) holds the precedence rule. It copiesbeatscheck.confintoos.environfor every key a Docker variable doesn't set, and returns the keys whose saved value a Docker variable overrides._reload_configcalls it, so its behaviour is unchanged except for a missing file (below).os.environ, so a saved Lidarr URL still applies at once. The reply now carriesdocker_set: the overridden keys among the ones this save posted (names only, never values). A conflict left from an earlier save isn't named.beatscheck.confis gone or can't be read when the save reads it back, the save replies with a 500 error. It no longer reportsokfor settings it didn't apply. A missing file now counts as unreadable in the helper, so the config reload also leavescfgalone in that case._sync_env_from_config_file, for the save and the config reload alike. Before, a read that started first could copy an older file intoos.environafter a newer save had applied. Each save reads the file back after its own write, so the last read-back applies the newest file._load_confignow records the variables set at startup before it picks a startup path. Before, only the Docker path recorded them. With the path-argument start under "Without Docker" indocs/installation.md(MODE=report … python3 app/main.py <music> <quarantine> <log>), the first reload let abeatscheck.confbeside the log replaceMODE=report.Configuration saved. Set by a Docker variable, so not applied: modeas a warning toast when that list isn't empty.docs/configuration.mdsaid a value saved in the WebUI overrides the environment variable until the container restarts. It now says variables win over WebUI saves too, that the save says so, and that the saved value applies once you remove the variable and recreate the container.Testing
tests/test_config_save_env.py(8 tests, 10 cases) runs the WebUI server with the login off andMODE=reportset as a Docker variable, withos.environreplaced for the test.mode = setupwith a Lidarr URL leavesMODEatreportand namesmodein the reply.os.environstraight after the save.MODEover the file, for the Docker start and the path-argument start.beatscheck.confis missing or can't be read; the refresh that then runs reads an unchanged environment, so it behaves the same.node --checkclean.Summary by CodeRabbit
