Updates click from 8.1.7 to 8.5.0

8.5.0

This is the Click 8.5.0 feature release. A feature release may include new features, remove previously deprecated code, add new deprecation, or introduce potentially breaking changes.

We encourage everyone to upgrade. You can read more about our Version Support Policy on our website.

PyPI: https://pypi.org/project/click/8.5.0/ Changes: https://click.palletsprojects.com/page/changes/#version-8-5-0 Milestone https://github.com/pallets/click/milestone/33

  • Add built-in shell completion support for PowerShell (Windows PowerShell 5.1+ and pwsh 7+) alongside the existing bash, zsh, and fish completers. Use _FOO_BAR_COMPLETE=powershell_source foo-bar to generate the completion script. #2672 #3637
  • Supported versions of Windows enable ANSI terminal styles by default. Colorama is no longer a dependency and is not used. #2986 #3505
  • {class}Argument accepts a help parameter, and help output includes a Positional arguments section when argument help is available. #2983 #3473
  • confirm() and prompt() strip ANSI color and style codes from the prompt when the output stream does not support them, matching echo(). This stripping was lost in 8.4.0 when #2969 began writing the prompt with input() directly. #3572 #3653
  • {class}Path with allow_dash=True no longer triggers a BytesWarning, an error under python -bb, when checking a value against the - convention. #2877 #3642
  • Add {func}custom_version_option, a --version option whose output is produced by a callback, covering cases {func}version_option intentionally does not. The feature set of {func}version_option is now frozen; see [discussion #3527](https://github.com/pallets/click/discussions/3527). #3581
  • style() and secho() no longer silently drop the 256-color index 0 (black) passed as fg or bg, and now validate color arguments. Invalid colors raise a ValueError instead of a TypeError. #3677
  • The automatic help option stores its value under the reserved name _click_default_help instead of help, so a parameter named help no longer breaks parsing. The new name is visible in {meth}Command.to_info_dict output. Parameters that overwrite each other's value trigger a warning: an argument sharing its name with another parameter, or any parameter claiming the reserved name. Options may still share a name to compete for the same value (feature switches). #2819 #3678
  • unstyle and the ANSI handling behind help-text wrapping now strip the full CSI escape-sequence grammar. #3681
  • Streamline Option flag handling: the flag-kind, type, lazy-default and validation steps in Option.__init__ move into focused helpers, and flag_value and default keep their unset sentinel at construction (resolved lazily on read) so is UNSET reliably tells a user-supplied value from an auto-derived one. Runtime behavior is unchanged, but {meth}Parameter.to_info_dict now resolves default=True on a feature switch to its flag_value, matching what the function receives at call

Updates sphinx-versioned-docs from 1.3.1 to 1.4

Release notes

Sourced from sphinx-versioned-docs's releases.

v1.4

What's Changed

Deprecations and Removals

  • The theme specific versions selector menu/badge is deprecated in favour of consistent experience across themes. Now, every theme will have the selector menu either in its sidebar or in its footer(if the theme supports it). (#47)
  • The CLI option --branches is removed in favour of --branch and -b. (#67)

Features

  • Added a feature to either have the vanilla versions selector menu or have it as a floating badge via using either --floating-badge or --badge option available through command-line. (#47)

  • Modified the --branch/ -b to accomodate branch selection/exclusion. Now, any branch can be selected by mentioning it in --branch/--b and any can be excluded by adding a - infront of the branch/tag name in the cli argument. Like --branch main,-v1.0,v2.0 will select main, v2.0 and will exclude v1.0. (#69)

  • Adds windows compatibility. (#76)

  • Added regex support for selecting and excluding branches and tags. Now, any branch can be selected by mentioning it in --branch/ --b and any can be excluded by adding a - infront of the branch/tag name in the argument. Suppose there are 3 branches and tags: main, v1.0, v2.0. The argument --branch main,-v* will select main and will exclude v1.0 and v2.0. Similarly, the argument --branch -main,v* will select v1.0 and v2.0 and will exclude main.

Note: selecting a branch takes presidence over excluding one. (#80)

Updates pytest from 9.1.1 to 9.2.0

Release notes

Sourced from pytest's releases.

9.2.0

pytest 9.2.0 (2026-10-27)

Removals and backward incompatible breaking changes

  • #14716: -c now raises a usage error for a path that does not exist, is a directory, or is in a format pytest has no loader for. Such paths were previously either ignored or reported as an unhandled FileNotFoundError.

  • #8593: The indirect, ids and scope arguments of Metafunc.parametrize() <pytest.Metafunc.parametrize> -- and therefore of @pytest.mark.parametrize <pytest.mark.parametrize ref> -- are now keyword-only.

Passing them positionally was a common source of confusing errors, e.g. parametrize("arg1", "arg2", [(1, 2)]) made the argvalues land in indirect and failed with indirect fixture '(1, 2)' doesn't exist; such mistakes now fail with an understandable TypeError. The type annotations have always declared these arguments as keyword-only.

  • #993: Plugin import failures at startup are now reported and classified instead of escaping as a raw traceback with the accidental exit code 1:

    • a plugin that cannot be found -- via -p, pytest_plugins or PYTEST_PLUGINS -- exits with pytest.ExitCode USAGE_ERROR (4), like a conftest.py that fails to import;
    • a plugin that is found but raises while importing -- including a broken pytest11 entry point or a missing plugin dependency -- exits with pytest.ExitCode INTERNAL_ERROR (3), with the traceback preserved.

pytest.main now returns these codes instead of raising ImportError. Also fixed an IndexError from pytest's own internals when the plugin raised an exception with no arguments.

Deprecations (removal in next major release)

  • #14742: The private _pytest.python.CallSpec2 name has been renamed to CallSpec. The old CallSpec2 alias remains available for now and will be removed in pytest 10 or 11.

  • #14755: Schedule yield_fixture decorator for removal in pytest 10 or 11.

  • #14774: Similarly to the deprecation of class-scoped fixtures defined as instance methods in pytest 9.1, all higher-scoped fixtures (module, package, and session) defined as instance methods are now deprecated.

They suffer from the same issue the original deprecation only fixed for class-scoped fixtures, see 10819 and 14011.

  • #14808: Passing a non-string value to a string-typed ini option now emits a pytest.PytestRemovedIn10Warning. This affects [tool.pytest.ini_options] in pyproject.toml. In pytest 10 this will raise a TypeError, matching the behavior of the corresponding TOML config path.

  • #7323: Passing bytes to TerminalReporter.write_line() is now deprecated, pass a str instead.

New features

  • #14743: Full diff: now contains a legend explaining the + & - symbols in diff output.
  • #2781: When strict_markers is enabled, marker names used in -m expressions are now validated against registered markers.
  • #6881: Added the parametrize_long_str_id_strategy configuration option to control how long str/bytes parameter values are handled in auto-generated test IDs. Explicit IDs set via ids=[...] or pytest.param(..., id=...) are not affected. Available strategies: short (default, values over 100 chars fall back to argname+index), sha256 (SHA-256 hex digest), legacy (keep full value), and disallow (error requesting explicit IDs).

Improvements in existing functionality

  • #10745: A RecursionError whose recursion origin cannot be located now shows only the first and last 10 stack frames, matching what pytest already did when locating the origin failed outright. Previously the full traceback -- often around a thousand near-identical frames -- was rendered, which was both slow and unreadable. Pass --full-trace to see every frame.

Updates pytest-mock from 3.14.0 to 3.17.0

Release notes

Sourced from pytest-mock's releases.

v3.17.0

2026-10-17

  • #641: Failures of mock assertions such as assert_called_with are again reported only once, instead of two or three times with the original error from the mock module chained before them.
  • #642: Mock assertion failures no longer show misleading introspection when they are not about the arguments of the last call: assert_called, assert_called_once, assert_not_called, assert_any_call, their await counterparts, and assert_called_once_with/assert_awaited_once_with when the mock was not called (awaited) exactly once. The introspection also no longer reports arguments passed by position versus by keyword as different for autospecced mocks, and no longer shows empty Args:/Kwargs: sections when assertion rewriting is not available.
  • #643: assert_has_calls and assert_has_awaits failures no longer show pytest introspection, which compared the expected and actual calls position by position and so reported differences between unrelated calls. The mock's own message, listing the expected and actual calls, is still shown.

v3.16.1

2026-10-17

  • #617: Fixed assert_has_calls raising ValueError instead of AssertionError (or showing misleading introspection) when the expected calls are plain tuples rather than call(...) objects, such as (args, kwargs) entries of another mock's call_args_list, (args,), (kwargs,), (name, args) or (name, kwargs).
  • #621: Fixed mocker.stop() sometimes stopping the wrong mock, for example with mocks from mocker.create_autospec.
  • #621: mocker.stop() now undoes the most recent patch first when the same object is used in several patches.
  • #623: Fixed misleading introspection in assert_has_awaits failures, and assert_has_calls/assert_has_awaits raising IndexError instead of AssertionError when calls is passed by keyword.
  • #624: Clear spy_return_iter after a spied synchronous or asynchronous function raises, matching spy_return.
  • #627: Document async_stub await assertions and the distinction between call and await tracking.
  • #629: Fixed mocker.resetall() skipping the mocks patched with mocker.patch.multiple(), both the ones it creates and the ones passed explicitly.
  • #630: mocker.resetall() now also resets spy_return and spy_exception of spies, like it already did for spy_return_list and spy_return_iter, and no longer overwrites attributes with these names on mocks that are not spies.
  • #633: Fixed spies on classmethod, staticmethod, builtins and classes returning a MagicMock instead of calling the spied code after mocker.resetall(side_effect=True). Resetting a spy's side_effect now goes back to calling the spied code, also clearing any side_effect set on the spy.

v3.16.0

2026-09-27

  • #604: Fixed duplicate_iterators=True for async functions spied with mocker.spy.
  • #611: Fixed async mock assertion introspection to use awaited arguments instead of the latest call's arguments.
  • #606: mocker.resetall(return_value=True, side_effect=True) now also applies to non-callable mocks, such as those returned by mocker.create_autospec(SomeClass, instance=True). Previously both arguments were silently ignored for them.
  • #547: Added SpyType for annotating mocker.spy results.
  • Dropped support for EOL Python 3.9.
  • #147: Removed handling of RuntimeError: stop called on unstarted patcher, which can no longer occur in the supported Python versions.
  • Added support for Python 3.15.

v3.15.1

2025-09-16

  • #529: Fixed itertools._tee object has no attribute error -- now duplicate_iterators=True must be passed to mocker.spy to duplicate iterators.

v3.15.0

2025-09-04

  • Python 3.8 (EOL) is no longer supported.
  • #524: Added spy_return_iter to mocker.spy, which contains a duplicate of the return value of the spied method if it is an Iterator.

v3.14.1

  • #503: Python 3.14 is now officially supported.

  • [#630](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-mock/issues/630) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-mock/pull/630>_: mocker.resetall() now also resets spy_return and spy_exception of spies, like it already did for spy_return_list and spy_return_iter, and no longer overwrites attributes with these names on mocks that are not spies.
  • [#633](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-mock/issues/633) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-mock/pull/633>_: Fixed spies on classmethod, staticmethod, builtins and classes returning a MagicMock instead of calling the spied code after mocker.resetall(side_effect=True). Resetting a spy's side_effect now goes back to calling the spied code, also clearing any side_effect set on the spy.

  • [#604](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-mock/issues/604) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-mock/pull/604>_: Fixed duplicate_iterators=True for async functions spied with mocker.spy.
  • [#611](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-mock/issues/611) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-mock/pull/611>_: Fixed async mock assertion introspection to use awaited arguments instead of the latest call's arguments.
  • [#606](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-mock/issues/606) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-mock/pull/606>_: mocker.resetall(return_value=True, side_effect=True) now also applies to non-callable mocks, such as those returned by mocker.create_autospec(SomeClass, instance=True). Previously both arguments were silently ignored for them.
  • [#547](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-mock/issues/547) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-mock/issues/547>_: Added SpyType for annotating mocker.spy results.
  • Dropped support for EOL Python 3.9.
  • [#147](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-mock/issues/147) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-mock/issues/147>_: Removed handling of RuntimeError: stop called on unstarted patcher, which can no longer occur in the supported Python versions.
  • Added support for Python 3.15.

  • [#529](https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-mock/issues/529) <https://github.com/pytest-dev/pytest-mock/issues/529>_: Fixed itertools._tee object has no attribute error -- now duplicate_iterators=True must be passed to mocker.spy to duplicate iterators.

7.16.2

Version 7.16.2 — 2026-09-27

  • Fix: on Python 3.14 and later, a for loop completing immediately before a function return could mistakenly report an uncovered branch. This is now fixed, closing issue 2168.
  • Fix: on Python 3.14 and later, the else clause of a try whose body is a with statement could incorrectly be reported as covered when the with raised. This is now fixed, closing issue 2289.
  • Fix: with dynamic_context = test_function, test methods written as @staticmethod or @classmethod were not given a context of their own. Now they are, on Python 3.11 and later. Closes issue 1923.

7.16.1

Version 7.16.1 — 2026-09-13

  • Fix: when the body of an irrefutable case (like case _:) is entirely excluded, the case line is now excluded too, just as an excluded else: body removes the else: line. Previously the case line was left behind and reported as missing. Closes issue 1563 with pull 2269.
  • Fix: using CoverageData.update() twice on an in-memory database would fail, as described in issue 2279. This is now fixed.
  • Fix: the Total row in the footer of the HTML report’s index page was recomputed in JavaScript with rounding that could disagree with the total the server rendered in the heading, including showing 100% when coverage was not complete. The footer now clamps values the way the rest of the report does, and when nothing is filtered out it is shown exactly as the server rendered it, so the two can’t disagree. That also keeps rows the report omits (--skip-covered drops fully covered files) in the total. Fixes issue 2256.

7.16.0

Version 7.16.0 — 2026-08-28

  • When combining files, now path separator slashes will automatically be converted to the local file system style. This makes it less necessary to define [paths] configuration to combine data across operating systems. Fixes issue 2266.
  • The Coverage.switch_context() method now returns the previous context.
  • Fix: previously, a [paths] pattern would be replaced everywhere in a file path when it was only meant to be replaced once, in the leading portion of the path. This is now fixed, in pull 2268.
  • Fixes to validation of options and configuration settings:
    • Negative precision settings now always cause useful error messages (pull 2261).
    • An invalid regex in the --contexts option (or the [report] contexts setting) reported a confusing “Couldn’t use data file …: user-defined function raised exception” error. Now it raises a proper c...
