9.2.0

pytest 9.2.0 (2026-10-27)

Removals and backward incompatible breaking changes

  • #14716: -c now raises a usage error for a path that does not exist, is a directory, or is in a format pytest has no loader for. Such paths were previously either ignored or reported as an unhandled FileNotFoundError.

  • #8593: The indirect, ids and scope arguments of Metafunc.parametrize() <pytest.Metafunc.parametrize> -- and therefore of @pytest.mark.parametrize <pytest.mark.parametrize ref> -- are now keyword-only.

Passing them positionally was a common source of confusing errors, e.g. parametrize("arg1", "arg2", [(1, 2)]) made the argvalues land in indirect and failed with indirect fixture '(1, 2)' doesn't exist; such mistakes now fail with an understandable TypeError. The type annotations have always declared these arguments as keyword-only.

  • #993: Plugin import failures at startup are now reported and classified instead of escaping as a raw traceback with the accidental exit code 1:

    • a plugin that cannot be found -- via -p, pytest_plugins or PYTEST_PLUGINS -- exits with pytest.ExitCode USAGE_ERROR (4), like a conftest.py that fails to import;
    • a plugin that is found but raises while importing -- including a broken pytest11 entry point or a missing plugin dependency -- exits with pytest.ExitCode INTERNAL_ERROR (3), with the traceback preserved.

pytest.main now returns these codes instead of raising ImportError. Also fixed an IndexError from pytest's own internals when the plugin raised an exception with no arguments.

Deprecations (removal in next major release)

  • #14742: The private _pytest.python.CallSpec2 name has been renamed to CallSpec. The old CallSpec2 alias remains available for now and will be removed in pytest 10 or 11.

  • #14755: Schedule yield_fixture decorator for removal in pytest 10 or 11.

  • #14774: Similarly to the deprecation of class-scoped fixtures defined as instance methods in pytest 9.1, all higher-scoped fixtures (module, package, and session) defined as instance methods are now deprecated.

They suffer from the same issue the original deprecation only fixed for class-scoped fixtures, see 10819 and 14011.

  • #14808: Passing a non-string value to a string-typed ini option now emits a pytest.PytestRemovedIn10Warning. This affects [tool.pytest.ini_options] in pyproject.toml. In pytest 10 this will raise a TypeError, matching the behavior of the corresponding TOML config path.

  • #7323: Passing bytes to TerminalReporter.write_line() is now deprecated, pass a str instead.

New features

  • #14743: Full diff: now contains a legend explaining the + & - symbols in diff output.
  • #2781: When strict_markers is enabled, marker names used in -m expressions are now validated against registered markers.
  • #6881: Added the parametrize_long_str_id_strategy configuration option to control how long str/bytes parameter values are handled in auto-generated test IDs. Explicit IDs set via ids=[...] or pytest.param(..., id=...) are not affected. Available strategies: short (default, values over 100 chars fall back to argname+index), sha256 (SHA-256 hex digest), legacy (keep full value), and disallow (error requesting explicit IDs).

Improvements in existing functionality

  • #10745: A RecursionError whose recursion origin cannot be located now shows only the first and last 10 stack frames, matching what pytest already did when locating the origin failed outright. Previously the full traceback -- often around a thousand near-identical frames -- was rendered, which was both slow and unreadable. Pass --full-trace to see every frame.

Updates presidio-analyzer from 2.2.364 to 2.2.366

Release notes

Sourced from presidio-analyzer's releases.

Release 2.2.366

This is a security release. It raises the Pillow requirement of presidio-image-redactor to 13.0.0, refreshes every lock file to clear 100 known advisories, locks Transformers 5.16.1 in the analyzer, and ships slimmed container images plus new distroless variants. It also drops Python 3.10.

Packages: presidio-analyzer 2.2.366, presidio-anonymizer 2.2.366, presidio 2.2.366, presidio-image-redactor 0.0.62, presidio-structured 0.0.10.

Upgrade notes

  • Python 3.10 is no longer supported. Python 3.10 reached end of life on 2026-10-01. All packages now require Python >=3.11,<3.15. Installs on Python 3.10 resolve to the previous releases.
  • presidio-image-redactor requires Pillow 13. The requirement is now pillow>=13.0.0,<14.0.0. Pillow 13 fixes the 41 security advisories (5 critical, 23 high) open against Pillow 12.3.0 (#2393).
  • The spaCy factory hf_token_pipe is gone. The analyzer no longer depends on spacy-huggingface-pipelines. TransformersNlpEngine now registers its own presidio_hf_token_pipe factory. A spaCy pipeline saved with nlp.to_disk() that references hf_token_pipe no longer loads; Presidio never saves such a pipeline itself. Detection results and scores are unchanged.
  • New minimums for the analyzer extras. The transformers extra requires transformers>=4.28.0,<6.0.0. The gliner extra requires gliner>=0.2.29, transformers>=4.51.3,<5.17.0 and a single onnxruntime>=1.19. Installing Transformers 5.10 or later is recommended to pick up the security fixes.
  • Container images no longer ship curl. The image HEALTHCHECK now probes /health with the Python standard library and ignores HTTP_PROXY. The docker-compose.yml healthcheck overrides were removed so the image healthchecks apply. Existing image tags keep their names.

Security

  • Slimmed and hardened the default analyzer and anonymizer images: the python:3.12-slim and python:3.14-slim bases are re-pinned with OS security updates applied, uv is bind-mounted at build time instead of installed, and setuptools and wheel (plus pip in the anonymizer) are removed from the final image. Trivy critical, high and medium findings drop from 321 to 103 (anonymizer) and from 345 to 113 (analyzer). (#2407)
  • Refreshed every uv.lock file to fix the 100 known advisories in the locked development and CI dependencies, including pillow 13.0.0, virtualenv 21.14.13, pyjwt 2.15.1, aiohttp 3.14.5, urllib3 2.8.0, cryptography 50.0.2, filelock 4.2.4, oauthlib 4.0.0 and certifi 2026.10.23. Apart from the Pillow and onnxruntime requirements above, published dependency ranges are unchanged. (#2409)
  • Locked transformers to 5.16.1 in the analyzer, which fixes GHSA-xrqw-3rrv-vx5w and GHSA-x9r9-c232-4q39. (#2201)
  • Raised the presidio-image-redactor Pillow requirement to 13 and replaced the Image.getdata() call in the DICOM redactor with get_flattened_data(), since getdata() is deprecated in Pillow 13 and removed in Pillow 14. (#2393, #2409)

Added

  • Distroless container images. The analyzer and anonymizer are also published as distroless images built on Azure Linux, tagged <version>-distroless and latest-distroless in the same GHCR repositories. The unsuffixed tags, including latest, remain the default images. The distroless images contain no shell, package manager, pip or uv, run Python 3.12 as UID 65532, listen on port 3000, and take gunicorn settings through GUNICORN_CMD_ARGS instead of PORT and WORKERS. Trivy findings are 1 (anonymizer) and 6 (analyzer). A docker-compose.distroless.yml override runs them locally. (#2407)

    docker pull ghcr.io/data-privacy-stack/presidio-analyzer:2.2.366-distroless
    docker pull ghcr.io/data-privacy-stack/presidio-anonymizer:2.2.366-distroless
  • Context-aware enhancer configuration in YAML. A new optional context_aware_enhancer section in the analyzer configuration sets the LemmaContextAwareEnhancer parameters (context_similarity_factor, min_score_with_context_similarity, context_prefix_count, context_suffix_count, context_matching_mode) without Python code. Invalid values are rejected at parse time with an actionable message. Configurations without the section keep the previous defaults. (#2373)

Fixed

  • The documentation publishing workflow no longer deletes the CNAME file, which took presidio.dataprivacystack.org offline after every publish. Canonical links and the sitemap now use the custom domain. (#2410)
  • The documented docker run port mapping for a source-built anonymizer image now maps to container port 3000. (#2407)

[2.2.366] - 2026-10-27

General

Added

  • Added distroless variants of the analyzer and anonymizer container images, built from Dockerfile.distroless on Azure Linux and published to the same GHCR repositories as <version>-distroless and latest-distroless tags; the unsuffixed tags, including latest, remain the default images. The distroless images contain no shell, package manager, pip or uv, run Python 3.12 as UID 65532, listen on port 3000, and take gunicorn settings through GUNICORN_CMD_ARGS instead of PORT and WORKERS. A docker-compose.distroless.yml override runs them locally, and CI runs the e2e tests against them (#2407) (Thanks @SharonHart)

Changed

  • Dropped Python 3.10 support, which reached end of life on 2026-10-01. All packages now require Python >=3.11,<3.15; Python 3.10 users resolve to the previous releases (#2409) (Thanks @SharonHart)
  • The default analyzer and anonymizer images no longer contain curl: the image HEALTHCHECK now probes /health with the Python standard library, ignoring any HTTP_PROXY settings, and the docker-compose.yml healthcheck overrides were removed so the image healthchecks apply (#2407) (Thanks @SharonHart)

Fixed

  • Fixed the documentation publishing workflow deleting the CNAME file, which took the custom presidio.dataprivacystack.org domain offline after every publish; canonical links and the sitemap now use the custom domain (#2410) (Thanks @omri374)
  • Fixed the documented docker run port mapping for a source-built anonymizer image, which listens on container port 3000 (#2407) (Thanks @SharonHart)

This cuts the Trivy critical, high and medium findings from 321 to 103 (anonymizer) and from 345 to 113 (analyzer); the distroless images bring them down to 1 and 6 (#2407) (Thanks @SharonHart)
  • Refreshed every uv.lock file to fix the 100 known advisories in the locked development and CI dependencies, including pillow 13.0.0, virtualenv 21.14.13, pyjwt 2.15.1, aiohttp 3.14.5, urllib3 2.8.0, cryptography 50.0.2, filelock 4.2.4, oauthlib 4.0.0 and certifi 2026.10.23; apart from the pillow and onnxruntime requirements listed below, published dependency ranges are unchanged (#2409) (Thanks @SharonHart)

Analyzer

Added

  • Added an optional context_aware_enhancer section to the analyzer YAML configuration so the LemmaContextAwareEnhancer parameters (context_similarity_factor, min_score_with_context_similarity, context_prefix_count, context_suffix_count and context_matching_mode) can be set without Python code; invalid values are rejected at parse time with an actionable message, and configurations without the section keep the previous defaults (#2373) (Thanks @MetehanAydemir)

Changed

  • Replaced the unmaintained spacy-huggingface-pipelines dependency with an internal spaCy token-classification component. TransformersNlpEngine now registers the presidio_hf_token_pipe factory instead of hf_token_pipe, so a spaCy pipeline saved with nlp.to_disk() that references hf_token_pipe no longer loads. The transformers extra now requires transformers>=4.28.0,<6.0.0, and the gliner extra requires gliner>=0.2.29 and transformers>=4.51.3,<5.17.0. Detection results and scores are unchanged (#2201) (Thanks @SharonHart)
  • The gliner extra now declares a single onnxruntime>=1.19 requirement; the <1.24.1 cap applied only to Python 3.10 (#2409) (Thanks @SharonHart)

Security

Image Redactor

Security

  • Raised the Pillow requirement to >=13.0.0,<14.0.0, which fixes the 41 security advisories (5 critical, 23 high) open against Pillow 12.3.0, and replaced the Image.getdata() call in the DICOM redactor with get_flattened_data(), since getdata() is deprecated in Pillow 13 and removed in Pillow 14 (#2393, #2409) (Thanks @SharonHart)

[2.2.365] - 2026-10-25

General

Added

  • Added a documentation sample showing how to use Presidio Analyzer and Anonymizer as an input guardrail for the AISIX AI Gateway (#2257) (Thanks @Yilialinn)

Changed

  • Restructured the repository's AI guidance into Copilot review instructions and cross-agent guidelines (AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md) covering recognizers, YAML configuration, and general contribution practices (#2211) (Thanks @omri374)
  • Added automatic pull request labelling by component and area based on the changed paths (#2240) (Thanks @omri374)
  • Updated the README and project transition documentation to reflect that the transition to the Data Privacy Stack is complete (#2274) (Thanks @omri374)
  • Updated the development setup documentation from Poetry to uv to match what CI runs (#2220) (Thanks @juno-junho)

Fixed

  • Fixed four presidio-cli bugs: --no-warnings crashing, the exit code not reflecting the number of problems found, -f github not emitting ::warning/::error workflow commands, and out-of-range or non-numeric threshold config values being accepted silently (#2266) (Thanks @v0ropaev)

Security

  • Updated the locked aiohttp to 3.14.3 and anyio to 4.14.2 in the presidio-cli lockfile to fix six vulnerabilities; published dependency ranges are unchanged (#2304) (Thanks @RonShakutai)
