Complete review of the Italian translation, checked line by line against the English master of the Restoration Project, in game order.

Summary

  • 8,309 strings updated out of 55,263 (dialog, game and cuts).
  • Female entries (msgctxt "female"): 137 updated, 5 added.
  • 775 strings with typographic characters (… ’ — “ ” and accented letters) converted to plain ASCII, following the Italian convention (e' a' o'). The file now has no non-ASCII characters.
  • No entries removed, no placeholders (%s, %d) changed, header unchanged.

What changed

  1. Typos, spelling, apostrophes and accents fixed everywhere.
  2. Dialogue review, location by location: Arroyo, the Abbey, Klamath, Den, Modoc, Vault City, Gecko, Broken Hills, New Reno, Redding, NCR, Vault 15, Vault 13, Sierra Army Depot, Navarro, San Francisco, Enclave, EPA, tribes, raiders, slave camp, Hubologists, random encounters, Myron, Tandi and generic scripts. Fixed: mistranslations, untranslated lines, tone, consistent formal/informal address (tu/Lei) for each character.
  3. Global consistency pass on terminology, e.g. Water Chip = "chip dell'acqua", New California Republic = "Repubblica della Nuova California" (NCR kept), Molerat = "ratto-talpa", Deathclaw, Doc Jubilee, item and creature names aligned with pro_item/pro_crit.
  4. Creature and character names (pro_crit.msg, scrname.msg) without a leading article, because the engine inserts them in "You see: %s" and at the start of combat messages.
  5. combat.msg: second person only in the player messages, third person for other characters; male/female forms checked.
  6. Cutscenes and endings (cuts): narration in a consistent past tense, male and female versions aligned.
  7. Female entries updated with the reviewed female dialogue files.

Note: when the same English string has different Italian translations in game (player vs NPC, male vs female creature, tu vs Lei), the .po can keep only one. The most frequent form was used; the full local version will be released as a separate patch.
